EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) iTunes crash

I am getting the same error opening MS Word, Excel, and Quicken. Other applications open fine. They opened fine until a few days ago. 3 week old iMac / Leopard.

Hi I'm also having this problem with all of my microsoft programs; Word, Entourage, Excel etc. won't start as it used to? I tried to install Warcraft 3, which is a mac compatible game, and the same "stupid" kern failure came up on screen.

I too have noticed this problem. I thought it was associated with my new Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen Tablet Driver, but this may not be the case.

My G4 PowerBook has been crashing daily now for the last year leading me to suspect hardware failure. I've replaced the HD, OS and user accounts to no avail. Nevertheless, I've been documenting about a dozen Leopard bugs that have been plaguing this mac and my 24" iMac. Hopefully Apple engineers are hot on the trails of some of these bugs.

Within the last week I've had the same error cascade thru my MacBook Pro. First Filemaker wouldn't open, then al MS Office apps. Then Symantec AntiVirus.

Any ideas?

I had been posting and asking for help over in the iWeb discussion group. Someone replied and suggested that this may be a Leopard problem, not iWeb, sending me a link to here. Let's hope that all these clues lead some Apple Genius to a solution.

I too have received this error. But it was for firefox. I am shocked at the lack of help from apple regarding this important issue. The first post was in Nov. of last year. What gives apple. At least post that you are looking into it.

Man, I'm suspecting that there are some major boo boos with the last update that Apple put out. Recently I have noticed Leopard running very sluggishly on my Macbook. It used to run great, and I mean super great! Now I get little spinning rainbow cursors pretty often and programs unexpectedly crash every so often. When they do crash, I can re-create the crash by performing the same exact actions. These are little things too. Example: I opened an image in Preview and selected the color correction tool and applied auto levels. When trying to save the file it would crash consistently without saving the file of course. However doing the same thing in Photoshop CS3 would work fine. I came across these posts because I searched for "Exception Type: EXC BADACCESS (SIGBUS)" which was in the error report.

I do not suspect bad hardware on my part. I have been contemplating re-installing everything from a fresh install, but I can't justify repeating the process as I am using Leopard from a fresh install already. I can't narrow down what is causing the problems at all.

Not sure what the initial problem that corrupted the file was. And it seems like it will probably happen again if it's already happened to so many people. Hopefully Apple is looking into a permanent fix.

I also experience these issues. I've reinstalled from a freshly formatted hard drive, and they have not gone away!

Also, to the previous poster, those solutions are for a PPC problem that is not applicable here.

EXC BADACCESS usually indicates the program is trying to access a portion of memory that it shouldn't (a programming error).

Try to install the latest version of Firefox/WoW, etc.

I would try to uninstall Norton (it's gave me nothing but problems) and see if the problem resolves itself.

If the problem suddenly appeared, what new software has been installed recently?

I'm going to try some of these solutions in the morning but I'm not optimistic about any of them working. I now have this happening on my PBG4 and my MacPro. I haven't noticed the EXC BADACCESS (SIGBUS) on my PowerMac G4 but that's my wife's and kids machine.

Dreamweaver 8 was working fine just yesterday and now Kablamy it won't even launch without crashing. Strata 3DCX is doing the same thing. Acrobat 7 started crashing on close about a week ago and now the mayhem seems to be spreading.

The only common thing I can think of since this has started to happen is my use of Time Machine, which I love.

Any solutions besides wiping the disk?

Nope, turning off Time Machine, File Sharing and .Mac processes didn't help. So I did the usual prudent things when experiencing any kind of computer problem on a Mac. First, I did a safe boot and repaired the permissions. No change. Then I did the ol' reliable fsck -fy. Still no change in the crashing programs on my user account. Next, I created a fresh new user and low and behold all my programs worked just fine except for Strata 3D CX which needs to be updated anyway. The update works just fine I tried the demo.

Dreamweaver was crashing on boot so I tossed the site pref file and viloa alls well with Dreamweaver.

I'm really not certain what causes this EXC BADACCESS (SIGBUS) error and would really like to figure it out but for now I'll keep an eye on the crash reports and see if anything hits home.

I am getting the same error with Office 2008. It's driving me nuts! I was working on homework and everything was fine. I shut the lid and the computer went to sleep. When I came back and opened back up the lid about 3 hours later, all I got was the error message. I have tried everything. It works under a different user, I restore permissions but that didn't work, I've uninstalled and reinstalled a dozen times. However, I'm not asked for a product key when installing and it shows that there's nothing to install even though I've deleted literally everything relating to Microsoft and emptied the trash using Onyx. I need to get this fixed so I can do homework!

This is awfully disappointing since a Mac was supposed to be the simplest of machines for my father to operate and he can't even load a few mp3's onto his iPod without using his Leopard disk and using terminal which is far out of his comfort zone. I am awfully disappointed in these errors that have been bothering so many users.

Does anyone have a solution that works without the Leopard disk? My father and I are currently traveling and don't have access to the Leopard disk.
