PHOTOBOOTH! NO SOUND!!!!

what is going on here? seriously? i've tried to find a trend but i can't. I've come to the conclusion, that randomly Photobooth will not record the sound during a video record. sometimes it records and plays back and other times all you see is your lips moving? what the he** is going on here? i mean i've been having this problem since i got Leopard. why hasn't Apple sent out an update for it? this is so dumb. anyone know how to fix it? or highjack it (trick it to work)-like every other part of the Mac OS.

Same problem here!!!!

It seems to be a general problem since there are some many posts about it!! Doesn't Apple read the forums? FIX LEOPARD APPLE!!!

Another issue I've encountered with my new Leopard is that Mail always (and I mean ALWAYS) asks for my accounts passwords, no matter how many times I check the "remember on my keychain" box... Leopard: I'm telling you to REMEMBER MY PASSWORD!!!

I agree these are small bugs but they're so d*mn annyoing!!!

So, any expert on these forums to tell us if Mac plans to do something about it?

My problem is solved by reinstalling Leopard. The first install was an upgrade from Tiger. This time i did a fresh install. I ran all available updates. Now I can record sound while recording a video with photobooth.

I noticed that other minor problems are solved, too. I guess that upgrading isn't working as smoothly as Apple wants us to believe. So from now on, i'm running clean install with new versions of Mac OS X.

I have the same issue. Mine was a clean install of Leopard onto an iMac (Late 2006, last ones in plastic) and I thought the 10.5.2 update would fix it, but it didn't. I was beginning to wonder if the latest Quicktime update is to blame; yet I also have a MacBook which I use in EXACTLY the same way (i.e. they might as well be the same machine) but that doesn't have the issue so I'm beginning to think it's hardware specific rather than software.

I have yet to call Apple's helpdesk regarding this because I'm sure I can fix it without them, but as I have AppleCare I may have to give them a ring and find out if they have a simple fix for this. If I get one, I will post back!!

Yeah I am having the same problem too and my husband just bought me a MacBook from the Apple Store on Valentine's Day this year, and from what he told me I have the newer version of OS X, so what gives?? Doesn't Apple hear us who have made previous complaints on here or do we have to call them in to report it and judging by the amount of calls this problem generates that is probably when they will make a move and DO SOMETHING!!! APPLE PLEASE FIX THE AUDIO PROBLEM IN OUR MOVIE CLIPS FEATURE IN PHOTO BOOTH!!!

I just got off of the phone with Apple Support. I was forwarded to the "photobooth team" who proceeded to tell me that the most recent version of photobooth does not work (for audio recordings) because of an intentional code change.

I told her that this seemed 'crazy', and that I found it pretty unbelieveable that they would reduce the functionality of the program with an update.

To further exacerbate the craziness, I've been on a few other forums with people just like us with the same software and OS as me, who are NOT HAVING THESE SAME ISSUES. They are running everything exactly the same as we are, and it works perfectly!

How can this be? This is crazy!

*AN UPDATE*

I've spent around 4 hours on the phone with Apple over the last week. I got forwarded quite high up the heirarchy and even ended up talking to an Apple 'engineer' who -- as you can imagine -- seemed a bit more intelligent than your average customer service agent.

They ended up sending me a little piece of software which took logs of everythign happening on my computer, and were planning on getting back to me with a list of things to try on Friday. They did send me a quick message and suggest that the problem may be a program I have called 'Menu Meters', so I will be deleting that... but I should have more to report come Friday!

Also, as an FYI, the problem has nothing to do with your cache in either the home library or the system library. It also has nothing to do with user-installed quicktime components. These were the two major things we had tried over the phone with no luck.

I have this issue also. I am trying to have my students record a video diary, and photobooth is the easiest way to do it, since all they have to do is click record then I can review all their videos later. Sadly though, about half of them, completely randomly appear to have no sound. I thought maybe they were jsut speaking quietly, but apparently not.

Is there a solution to this? I can plug in an external mic if that will help, if not this is seriously annoying and will not help convincing my department to upgrade all their computers to Macs, as I'm trying to get them to do now!

long time listener, first time caller...yada yada.
just something i've noticed. photo booth uses quicktime as a platform. b4 the latest quicktime update 7.5 and maybe 7.4.5, audio was fine. when i would drag a clip onto the desktop and click info (apple + i) it states that the codec is MPEG-4 Video, AAC (sound). since these updates, the codec states MPEG-4 Video, sound. so no AAC. i.e. quicktime won't communication or encode sound for photo booth anymore! my inbuilt isight works fine for video & sound via iMovie, etc. so this has gotta be it! tried all the other suggestions, with no love. rang Apple support, and they suggested that i erase all my data and reload Leopard....ummm, ok. i don't think so. send us a quicktime update with photo booth support!!!!! does anyone else find the same info with apple+i? and has this affected their webcam chat (i.e Skype)?

Cheers!

IM DIEING. I NEED MY PHOTO BOOTH TO STOP DOING THE SAME THING... i make performance vids (singing/guitarplaying) and it ****** me off so much. I was going insane!!!
I cant have photo booth recording for more than a minute because it seems that when its over a minute or so.. it ends up not recording any sound at all!!!

SO im stuck with recording little tiny clips of my videos and it ***** balls!
Seriously! I JUST bought this macbook a few weeks ago. I KNOW it isnt the built in mic.. because when i record my songs using GarageBand.. theres no break or stopping of the recording. SO there has to be something wrong with PhotoBooth. Someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have this problem fixed ASAP.. .. .. .. .
