Creating Callouts?

Having recently moved over from PowerPoint, I used callouts all the time. Is there no way to create callouts in Keynote? I don't want to use the quote bubble. The Keynote manual docs have no entry for callouts, and this would seem to be a standard feature?

Sure, thanks. Callouts are generally text boxes (resizable, etc) that have a bracket of some sort on the left or right side of the text box, and an attached arrow that can be pointed/stretched to another object on the slide. This is a standard on PPT, with dozens of variations. I imagine that I could create them individually using graphics [, {, }, ] with arrows, but that would be a pain...

Now that I've given it some further thought, I believe "callouts" as they have been used can be created more impressively using Keynote's effects (much in the same way that bulleted comparison lists can be recreated as easier to understand tables). Using a large black shape with some transparency to fade out the slide while simultaneously using the "Pop" build to bring up the callout seems that it would be visually pleasing (a method Apple has used in their presentations).
