Creating Callouts?

Having recently moved over from PowerPoint, I used callouts all the time. Is there no way to create callouts in Keynote? I don't want to use the quote bubble. The Keynote manual docs have no entry for callouts, and this would seem to be a standard feature?

The thing to remember is that many people used to PowerPoint are used to an app that is graphically constrained. As a result, many of the standard conventions take this into account. The way you'll really wow them with Keynote is to try to take advantage of Keynote's abilities whenever possible... sparingly, of course. 🙂

UNLESS you're dealing with HS kids... in which case, Mireille, I've just uploaded another version of the same slide with and extra dash of "oooh weee!" on the last slide 😉

Another way to add a bit of zest to the pullquote is to reduce the scale of the main text as it fades out, so it appears to retreat into the background as the pullquote itself pops up. (It would also be neat to blur out the main text, but that seems relatively difficult to do, and doesn't produce the results I'd like from just within Keynote.)

Kyn,

sorry, the link does not work. I get a zip file that's only 4 KB large. Double-clicking on it produces a pullquote.key.zip.cpgz. Double-clicking on that file gives an pullquote.key_1.zip and so forth.

If the file is identical with the one you mentioned below, I don't need this one. Otherwise, I'd like to have a look on this version, too.

TIA,

Matthias

Hmmmm. When I compressed this time, it became named pullquote.zip instead of pullquote.key.zip. I'll rename it on the server and try again. It's not identical, the third slide is quite fancy pants! I wouldn't want to use that every day because it's kinda tough getting set up BUT I think it's cool.

It should be here now.

Thanks Kyn, the download worked.

BTW: it's identical to the pullquote.zip that you made for Mireille (with some "dash of 'ooh weeh'")-- at least that one I downloaded first yesterday via the link in the message to Mireille. Looks like both versions replaced each other:

I could reproduce the odd zip/cpgz behavior by clicking on the "pullquote.zip" link in the other message above (which doesn't exist on your iDisk any longer). Again the ZIP file is 4 KB large and "unpacks" to a cpgz file. Looks like an error of iDisk to me: instead of issuing an error message that a file cannot be found it downloads a "faulty" zip file.

Anyway, I got an impression on your pullquotes and I really like it.

Matthias
