Apple releases firmware 1.0.3 for Nano, Grab it from iTunes while its HOT!

Be careful with the 1.0.3 update. I have the 160GB classic and I just installed the new 1.0.3 software (supposedly same for the new nanos). All photos were unviewable after the update! I am going to erase and sync again to see what happens...

Same here! I can't view any of the pictures now either, can't enlarge them or play them in a slideshow, very disappointed! Also, whenever I try to go from the pictures menu back to main, the screen lags! Oh, and I'm not sure if this is a bug or not: the red second hand on the clock have disappeared.. =(

Agreed on all accounts, I'm thinking of downgrading back to 1.0.2... only if I knew how...

Hooray- Apple included the "speakers" option when you connect the iPod to speakers- you can now adjust the tone for playing through a speaker- and have the backlight remain on while it is playing so you can see what you are listening to!

The world clock has also been amended to take into account daylight savings ending in the northern hemisphere.

The problem with 1.0.2 causing continual rebooting if your music had an equalizer set seems to have been fixed.

im also having the same issue with my photos, I can't see them, I can see the thumbnails but when I choose to see it, I get a back screen.

And I can still se that they haven't fixt the cowerflow, the album is still sorted after artist and not album name.

Right, they need to make an option on the nano, which allows us to choose whether the coverflow is sorted by artist or album name. That'd be better for those who like their coverflows sorted differently than most people.

Coverflow does feel a tiny bit slower - however, watch the album art images as you do a fast scroll through coverflow. With the previous firmwares, many of the album art images wouldn't have time to load - they would show up as the default gray musical notes image. Now every album art image appears when scrolling. I like the tweak.

I do not have this problem on my Nano, so it's not a universal bug. No problems with pics for me.

As with the 1.0.3 software and the iPod classic, there is a "BUG" with the new software update. After installing, Photos are not viewable, except as thumbnails within each photo album. No photo preview from the main manu, no photos preview from the photo menu when scrolling over each photo album either. You need to erase the photos from your ipod and sync again via iTunes. A HUGE pain, but they will work fine after. This has been checked and verified with many iPod classic owners, and the 1.0.3 software is supposed to be the same for the new nanos... Hope this helps.

When I updated my software, it automatically synced again my photos to my Nano. As a result, I have had none of the photo problems being reported here. But let me stress that I did NOT erase the pics from my Nano first. All I did was update the software and then it automatically redid the pics.

My ipod keeps power cycling over and over after installing this update and my computer refuses to recognize it. I'm trying to figure out how to reset the darn thing, if it won't even boot up.

Any ideas?

Reset it and use disk mode.

The nano is a little slower in 1.0.3 but the lyrics screen scrolls faster.

I tried disk mode, no luck. Full restore fails.... it says "The ipod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)."
