iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store - Error

Recently purchased my first iPod, 80GB Classic, and it works great. However, I have been having issues with iTunes since day one. I need to access the iTunes Store to track down some album artwork and I keep receiving the following error message:

iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store: Make sure your network connection is active and try again.

At the time of this error, I am accessing the internet just fine. I also went ahead and removed all Norton programs and deactivated Windows Firewall entirely to no avail. I have also uninstalled iTunes repeatedly and even tried older versions of the software, also to no avail.

Even the diagnostics check comes back with no problems but I still cannot access the iTunes store.

I am puzzled by this, you appear to have a normal network connection. This was typical of the 11333 error that plagued the last version of iTunes, and the problem was caused by issues with certificates.

The used to be detailed instructions for solving the problem on the following page:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306628

But now it just says install 7.5

There are numerous threads on the 11333 error in the forum.

A couple of things you could check are is the date and time correct on your PC, that has caused problems.

I see you are using a proxy server, if you are permitted you could try turning it if as a test.

Like everyone else, I've been getting the message "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store: Make sure your network connection is active and try again." This was all last night and into the wee hours of the morning. Without any fanfare, service was resumed mid morning. All is now well, at this address.

I guess you tried the link I gave in my first post and it didn't work.

Could you post your network diagnostics:
Help>>Run Diagnostics>>Network Connectivity tests

At the end you can copy the result to your clipboard, could you post the entire result.

I want to see if your connectivity tests are normal or if some problem shows up.

A quick thing to check is that your computer's date and time are correct set although that's a long shot.

Sure thing.

So far, I have checked the following: time/date info; firewall; uninstalled 7.5 and reinstalled an older version; done the same with Quicktime; and run diagnostics.

I should mention my internet is working fine on other sites, although I cannot connect to the store by searching or via the website like other users have gotten around this issue with. Every time I open iTunes, I get the following message: "iTunes could not connect with the iTunes store. An unknown error occurred (11333). Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

Here's my diagnostic log:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)

Hi there,

I wondered if i too could jump on the bandwagon here? I'm having exactly the same issue and have done so for a number of weeks now after buying the iPhone and downloading iTunes 7.5. I am able to browse the store and even purchase songs, but when i try to create a ringtone, i get the error message as mentioned.

I have included my diagnostic below, which comes back fine, but i have also tried allowing iTunes port 3689 in my router's Firewall, completely disabling Windows Firewall and turning off my Anti Virus software. I really am out of ideas now! Any help very gratefully received.

You appear to be one of those with normal connectivity diagnostics. Originally that was usually due to a certificate problem but that appears to have been resolved. Here is the help Apple provides for 11333 which I guess will be no help to you.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306628

I don't see your date and time on the diagnostics, is that set correctly? Incorrect date/time can cause connectivity problems.

The big thing though is that you appear to be using Windows XP service pack 1 and iTunes requires service pack 2 or later.

You can get SP2 from the Microsoft site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

It is a huge operating system upgrade and if you go ahead with it make sure you have your files backed up and also it is a good idea to deauthorise your PC before doing it, then reauthorising afterwards.

This is driving me insane. I'm having exactly the same problem.

Have bought a new laptop with Vista for my Dad. Downloaded iTunes 7.5 and had no probs but we can't connect to get CD track names or connect to Itunes store.

Connection to internet is fine. Windows Firewall is off, Norton is on but I've made sure iTunes is allowed etc. When I turned Norton off as well we still had same probs. Very frustrating! Am a complete technophone and don't have a clue what to try next!
