iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store - Error

Recently purchased my first iPod, 80GB Classic, and it works great. However, I have been having issues with iTunes since day one. I need to access the iTunes Store to track down some album artwork and I keep receiving the following error message:

iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store: Make sure your network connection is active and try again.

At the time of this error, I am accessing the internet just fine. I also went ahead and removed all Norton programs and deactivated Windows Firewall entirely to no avail. I have also uninstalled iTunes repeatedly and even tried older versions of the software, also to no avail.

Even the diagnostics check comes back with no problems but I still cannot access the iTunes store.

I've noticed that it appears (in my case) to be tied to whether or not parental controls are on for the computer user account: as soon as I turn parental controls off, I can connect to iTunes store. Once I turn parental controls back on, I get the error message suggesting I check whether network connection is active...
I have a request in to iTunes support, currently waiting for a response...

I have had this same issue everyone has been describing ever since I got this computer but I just recently actually wanted to use iTunes when I got my iPod touch. It turns out that my McAfee antivirus program was blocking iTunes from connecting for whatever reason. I uninstalled it just now and everything seems to be working perfectly! I hope that this is helpful to someone because I know there are loads of us having this same issue! Good luck 🙂

Wow. Tons of replies and suggestions since I last checked.

However, I'm still having this issue and its been a couple of months now. I did completely uninstall Norton and deactivated Windows Firewall, no such luck. I do use the current version of Firefox if that means anything. I even went to the Apple website to access the store there but when it needs to load iTunes, it still gives me the connectivity error even though I am accessing the internet at that same moment.

Hi - I am having the exact same problem - not on my laptop, only my main PC (which is where all my music is!). I have done all the things advised in this thread and on itunes help, but to no avail. I also cannot access the CD track names from Gracenotes. I cannot see any differences in the internet connection set up between my two computers.

I ran the network diagnostic and got an error - secure link to itunes failed.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.
