Powerpoint 2004 issues with 10.4.11 - Crashes

Same problem here. Any solutions? Macbook with 10.4.11 and Office 2004 with all updates crashes when brought into slideshow.

I'm seeing the same thing here on a single MacBook Pro (Sept 2006 Purchase). This particular laptop started crashing when viewing full screen slideshows in PowerPoint 2004 upon the update to 10.4.10, but with a different error.

The error appeared to be graphics library related.

After upgrading to 10.4.11 (via the combo update) I'm now seeing the same error described in this thread.

I am now having the same issue that you are describing as well. Powerpoint 2004 with all updates on OS and Office. Occurring on Macbooks OSX 10.4.11. Did anyone find a fix other than reporting this issue to MS?

Anybody get anywhere on this. I'm seeing the same exact behavior on a BMacBook, 10.4.11

Step one: Copy OpenGL.framework from /System/Library/Frameworks on a known working machine to a USB stick, or something similar. Rename the copy to OpenGL.framework.old.

Step two: Copy OpenGL.framework.old to your broken MacBook.

Step three: Reboot in Single User mode.

Step four: /sbin/mount -wu / to get write access to the root volume.

Step five: cd to /System/Library/Frameworks

Step six: mv OpenGL.framework to OpenGL.framework.bak

Step seven: mv OpenGL.framework.new to OpenGL.framework

Don't blame me when you break it.

Did you have to copy from a machine with an equivalent graphics card (GMA 950?), or did any old OpenGL.framework/ do?

I'm guessing this is all machine-specific. I've tried copying from a working 10.4.11 Aluminum iMac and a 10.4.9 MacBook disk image with no luck.

This solution worked for me, tobyobi, but I did it without rebooting. Since frameworks are accessed as they are needed, you should be able to remove/replace them live.

My procedure was as follows:

1. Go to an identical computer model running 10.4.10 and make a .dmg of the OpenGL.framework file (this preserves ownership and permissions), saving it to the desktop:

sudo hdiutil create -srcFolder /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework ~/OpenGL.dmg

2. Copy the resulting dmg to the destination computer. I put it at the top level of the drive.

3. On the destination computer, quit all open Applications (as a precaution), then open Terminal.

4. Make a backup of the current OpenGL.framework:

sudo mv /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework.bak

5. Mount the .dmg:

sudo hdiutil attach /OpenGL.dmg

6. Copy the replacemt framework over:

sudo ditto /Volumes/OpenGL.framework /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework

7. Unmount the .dmg:

sudo hdiutil detach /Volumes/OpenGL.framework

8. Try PowerPoint again.

I got in too big of a hurry and did this and now slideshows in Powerpoint work great! Now my only problem is that Keynote, iWeb and Photo Booth won't work.

You're right. I just tried Keynote after the OpenGL.framework switch and it seems to load fine but doesn't work correctly. Back to the drawing board. 😟

I'm having a similar problem with PPT since the upgrade, only in my case PPT crashes as soon as it opens. (Am also having Mail printing problems since the upgrade, covered in another thread, that we suspected might be font related.) I looked up the support doc on Microsoft ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313535/EN-US/) but none of that helped. Ran Font Book and validated all fonts--deleted two that were bad and rebooted. Still can't open PPT. Word and Excel seem to work fine. Someone in the Mail thread thought it might be a Windows Server problem, and I notice below in my error message that "Parent" is listed as Windows Server. I have no idea what that means. Here's the error message I got, in case it helps anyone figure this out.

Yeah but if you look at your build you are using Office X. This is about Office 2004, more specific Powerpoint 2004. Your bug log doesn't do us much good. No doubt you are having problems with Office X, it's pretty old to be running on 10.4.11.

Just curious if anyone has found a fix for the KeyNote crashes yet.

We had a similar problem - 17" MBP (2.4 Ghz), 10.4.11, PowerPoint v.x 10.1.9. Removed '/Applications/Microsoft Office X/Office/Type Libraries/Powerpoint 10 Type Library' and files opened normally at startup. Not sure what the long-term implications of this would be, though.

We are seeing the same issue on two of our MacBook Pros running 10.4.11, both Core Duo machines (early purchases). Powerpoint 2008 does NOT have the issue and in the short term we have upgraded the machines to work around it.

The video card in the affected machines is the Radeon X1600.
