I think I have found a solution people. Instead of using my wife's account like we have always done, I have created a new account in i tunes using my own apple id. It worked and we can now download music once more. It still doesn't explain why the wife's account is no good but if you just create a new account with a new apple id then you should get back on track again. I emailed apple support 4 days ago and I still haven't got any response. They obviously don't care or just don't know a solution. Good luck people.

So, SuePy, has Apple replied ? I hope you're not holding your breath. None of the suggestions posted here has addressed the problem. Don't see why I should open another account.

Tried Joereds32's suggestion : no change.

Meanwhile, four-and-half days after my original message to Apple, I received the following 48-hour response :

"I'm sorry you ran into [error 5002] ... caused by a temporary issue with the iTunes Store that should be resolved now. Please check the iTunes Store again. All features should be working well.

"[A load of blurb about how it might have been the fault of my connexion &c.]

"If you are still running into any difficulty please be patient as Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.

"Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.

We will be in contact with you as soon as the issue is resolved ... "

They must have taken a course in dissembling from Britain's New Labour ; high time they (1) got their story straight and (2) made their software work before installing it.

I had the problem for the past 2 weeks, I solved it.
First, my Itunes used to be in French.
I reinstalled it but this time in english, then to realise it was still not working. My Itunes was now in English, but not my Itunes Store.
So, I changed it ( Clicked on the small Canada button in the bottom of the page). Now both my itunes and my itunes store were in english. So I tried to buy a song, and it worked.

YES! Thank you, this helped to lead to my solution. I tried to update my CC code, but it kept giving me another error, saying I was unable to do that. So, I took the advice from someone else and tried to use a different account. Once I was into the billing info screen, I changed my mind and hit "done." THEN, when I went back into the preferences through my original account, I magically stopped getting the error and was able to access my billing info, update my security code, and thus, finally fix the error. Sorry if that was confusing, but basically, I think updating the credit card security code is a good fix. If you get an error when you try to do that, try starting to set up another account, and then close it once you get into the billing info. Then, try again to update the security code. I'm no computer whiz, but something in that process fixed my error. Apparently, I have more common sense than the morons at Apple Care. I was on the phone with a rep for about 45 minutes this morning, and all he managed to do was mess up my folders, which I had to restore later. From reading this forum, it's obvious that NUMEROUS people are experiencing the same error. When I called Apple about a week ago, they flat-out LIED to me and said it was an internal error and would be fixed shortly. What is the point of having support available for your products if people are better off finding their own answers???
