This might be a solution to problems described in this thread ("Error 5002" ID=1279630) and another ("I can't access the Itunes store" ID=1168888).

I think it might have been what 'grmidnight' meant in saying "... update my security code and ... fix the error".

Having first tried to buy the content of my shopping cart (to ensure they had not yet fixed the problem), I changed my iTunes-Store pass-word. Jackpot ! It worked ; hope this works for y'all.

I have exactly the same problem as you
Have e-mailed Apple - they say the problem will resolve itself! Eight days later same problem!.
I have contacted there help line they have been unable to resolve the issue.
I have tried all the 'fixes' as described in the discussions pages still with the problems.
Somebody - somewhere must know the answers.

Hi Sue. I kept getting the same message. I did the following steps, and it cleared the issue for me:
1. top navigation bar, click on Store, then "view my account". Log in.
2. Click on Edit Payment Information. (I had money leftover from my account on my other pc, this carried over to the new upload, but I couldn't use it). I updated my mailing address in the system, where it stated that my address didn't appear to be a normal mailing address in North America (heck, I had moved since I updated it last!).
3. Click "done".
Try to purchase your music and see if that helps. It worked for me.

Good luck!

Feb. 2008: I am getting this error every time I try to open/view my Shopping Cart. Everything else in iTunes store works, my account info is up to date.

I get this error on both my home PC's. At first I thought it might be a firewall/Norton Security thing but no such luck.

Judging by the amount of weeks this thread has been active, and the different instances/fixes cited, it would seem that Apple uses this error code for a variety of different bug scenarios.

I sure would like to buy some stuff today but they aren't making it easy for me!

Here's a sure fire way to solved this problem which worked for me instantly:-

Go to your home folder->click on library->click preferences->For convenience arrange .plist icons by name(alphabetically)->look for these three .plists:-

com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist

Drag all of them to your desktop. Then quit itunes and all other applications, shut down your computer. Wait 30 seconds, start up your computer and login as an administrator. Relaunch itunes
and try buying music or video from iTunes. I'm pretty sure it'll resolve error 5002. Then drag the .plists on your desktop to the trash and empty it.

This issue sometimes occurs when you've installed new software or after an apple software update. I've had similar error with Apple mail as well and dragged it's .plist to the trash and it works.

Good Luck to all.

This just happened today when I pushed the iTunes upgrade button.
I wanted to download the FREE song of the week. Got the error message. Tried a couple of different things, but this is what worked.
Here's what I did: Logged out of itunes. Logged back in as though I forgot my password. They sent me the email, I used the link, reset my password (chose a new one).
Went back to iTunes, logged in w/new password, went to the shopping cart & Voila! Success. Did not loose my shopping cart.
Try it! Good luck!
