We are experiencing this sudden error now too. Up until last night, we were accessing our Cart. But, then after adding one more song and deleting some from the cart, we got the error and cannot access the account from any machine. In addition to this one, we have a brand new iMAC "24, dual Intel; a PowerBook G4, and a Gateway Laptop running XP. None of the machines can access this Cart. Our other iTunes account is fine, without problem. But, this account's cart is inaccessible.
Reading the posts here, I did go to preferences and changed the option to buy immedediately. Then purchased one song, and went back to preferences, changed back to shopping cart mode. My shopping cart was accessable now, but EMPTY!!! <GRRRRRR> What a piece of crap. Very dissapointed in the lack of support.
I have tried changing my account info, CC number, password, etc, and have not had any luck. This is the third day with the 5002 error. I would make a new username and see how that turns out but that would defeat the purpose of trying to regain access to my original Shopping Cart where I had made my playlist to buy in the future. I'll keep checking this thread to se if anyone finds some more info on how to fix this error since not all tips work for everyone.
I've been getting this error message for the past several days. I normally buy with a shopping cart, and as of now the error message is preventing me from even opening the cart, not to mention buying from it. I tried some of the suggestions in this post, such as adding my security code info for my credit card, changing my password, logging in and logging out, and switching from shopping cart to 1-click buying and then back to shopping cart. Nothing has worked... if anyone finds a good solution, please let me know!!
I want to add in that I too am getting this error. I have four computers (iMac, Macbook, Dell laptop and a Dell Gamer System) and they are all authorized under my Apple account. In the past week whenever I go to the Shopping Cart on any of the computers I am unable to access. Get the annoying 5002 error!
I am a very skilled computer person and I have tried all the fixes listed here and in a other websites and none of them work. There has to be a bug here and Apple needs to address ASAP. Over the past several years I have invested $1,000s to build my digital music library. Up until last week I was a happy and satisfied customer. Now I am irritated and unsatisfied customer on the edge of rebelling.
Let's get a hot fix out and bring back my shopping cart so I can continue to BUY songs and albums I have places there for MY convenience in how I want to manage my purchases.
Judging from the comments in this thread - and my own personal frustration - yes, I've tried just about everything everyone has suggested - I would say this is a BIG problem for Apple. Meanwhile, someone in management at Apple is wondering why their sales are down....it's gonna get worse if this keeps up...
I'm not jumping through hoops to get to my cart so I started buying from Amazon instead of iTunes. Not really a fix but my frustration has dropped to normal levels.
I have to say that the problem resolved itself! I had the error for officially 13 days. Today, I tried it just for kicks and could not believe that it actually accessed my Shopping Cart. I hope this isn't temporary.
I tried the advise from everyone here and nothing worked. I finally just went for 1 click buying and left it like that for around 10 days (3 days after I first received the error). And today it is working again. Well, I'm happy because it still has my songs in the cart.
I ran into this problem and was able to solve it by doing the following:
Sign out of iTunes (click on button with account name and then click Sign Out)
Click the Sign In button
Enter your username and password Now, for me, it said that my billing information had changed outside of iTunes and I needed to update it. I did this and was able to purchase music after that.
