Its incredible that you just posted this. I was about to.

I am a Real Estate Appraiser in North Carolina, I just got a 12'iBook G4. First of all this is the best computer I've ever had. I can already see how useful and easy to use it is for scheduling appointments and keeping track of contacts, much more so then any win related software especially if it was bundled. I love this thing! I do, however have one concern,
I CAN'T RUN MY APPRAISAL SOFTWARE!!!!!
Its win-total if that doesn't give it away then I'll spell it out; I need a program, an emulator, something that will let me run this. Something that will let me run this WITHOUT installing windows would be the best.
Please can anybody help me with this.

and Daniel, all of our property management statements, offers to purchase, lead based paint addenda, etc. are in PDF which we down loaded from our State's Association Of Realtors web site and your Association should have something similar.
I think your Mac will do great things for your business

Daniel,

The only thing I can imagine that you could run into trouble with is trying to access your local area MLS with a Mac. For all other real estate related tasks, you'll find comparable Mac programs that will do what you want. But the MLS is a different beast. My wife had all kind of trouble trying to gain acces to the local MLS in South Florida with her Mac, until she finally gave up and settled for a Dull. The local MLS is licensed to one company (MLX) that had the wisdom to create their solution where it requires ActiveX. ActiveX does not work on anything but IE 6! We didn't want to use VPC either so she went with a PC. There are alternative sites starting to pop up in SF like Loopnet, but for the time being, it is MLX. Bottom line, check you local area MLS provider first.

She tears up everytime I bring her old iBook home, but whattya gonna do...

Daniel,

is IE not available for running on a mac?

Internet Explorer (IE) v5 is available on your Mac and comes normally bundled. If you happen not to have it, then you can easily download it from the Mactopia website.

The only thing about IE is that it is relatively old and hasn't been updated in a while. And Microsoft has stopped supporting IE for Mac. So if you need IE, you'll have to contend with IE 5. But worst of all is that IE 5 does not support ActiveX.

In most cases, it is about the customer. If you and every broker that you know with a Mac, contact you local MLS provider or Realty Board and demand that they make it Safari and Mac compatible. It might take some time, but eventually they'll have to make it Mac friendly in order to sell more subscriptions and keep their client base happy.

Thad, in your case it's even easier. The only thing you need to ask for is to have a broader browser compatibility. And even if you still can't use Safari, any browser other than IE would be an improvement.

I just received my Pa. Real Estate License so I am pretty new to the game, but I have been a mac users for years. My broker spoke with his IT guy who stated that I would need Windows XP and that it is not compatible with the MAC OS platform. I was able to obtain a passkey to get internet access and see the different servers they were running but need a user name and password. I have a feeling that it is compatible but the IT guy hasn't had to try to set one up since the majority run XP. I don't want to have to go out and get Virtual PC or buy a new laptop. When I go back into the Office tomorrow I will try to speak with the IT guy myself to see if we can work something out or at least try to get everything working proper.
I have to admit that it was actually pretty cool to see some fellow mac users in a job field such as this.
Does anyone know of any good Real Estate software for managing scheduling and contact information or do you all find iCal and Mail suitable enough?
