apple & real estate?

ok so i dont even know if this is the right place to post but im gonna give it a shot. i am a real estate agent in texas, and am looking at buying a 15inch powerbook with the works.(upgrades) i am a major mac fan and was wondering if anyone has run into problems with mac in this line of work as far as compatibility and such. if you cant answer then its cool im sure i can geek my way through whatever problems i encounter but i know that the people on these discussion boards have been helpful to me in the past so i thought i would get some feedback. thanks for taking the time to read.

There's also Camino, which curiously enough, when I navigated to the page to get the link I saw the following message.

You appear to be running Internet Explorer for Mac, a browser that hasn't been updated since 2001.

I'm using Opera at the moment. It's set to be identified as IE. Can you post a link to one of the sites you are using. If they require a Login you don't need to include that obviously. I just want to see if I can get the page to load.

I realise most of the discussion has focused on an activex based internet application. I'm not a real estate agent but you guys may be interested to know about an application called WINE. (Wine Is Not an Emulator). More specifically the up-coming port of WINE to Mac OS under the name Darwine. Basically is an open source implementation of windows application programming interface (API) and allows you to run windows programs on your mac (well some windows programs anyway...its not foolproof) It's faster than running a complete virtual pc and because its open source its a lot cheaper than forking out for VPC for Mac. It probably won't be of any help with your web app problem but its worth keeping in mind as its development progresses and application support increases.

Heres a URL for more information http://darwine.opendarwin.org//

well id give you the site but it wouldnt help. i can log in with other browsers and get to the site but it just doesnt function. for example if i try and do a search of somesort nothing will happen. plus the page doesnt look the same, it looks weird and misformatted. il try that new one you mentioned cammio. also il try masking opera as ie to see if that works. by the way is that a simple adjustment or will i have to download something for that. il see if i can figure it out. thanks for your input.

No, you don't need to download anything. Launch Opera and under 'Opera' on the menu bar click on 'Preferences'. Once the sub window pops up navigate to the tab labeled Advanced. Once there you'll notice a list on the left. Third from the bottom is 'Network'. Click on it and you'll see a combo box near the bottom to set the identifier for Opera. It's default is obviously 'Opera'. Change it to Identify as MSIE 6.0. Please post back with your progress.
