Music stops playing and iPod Touch returns to home screen
I was listening to my music and i was on track 68 out of 75 and suddenly, half way through the song, the iPod stopped playing the music and returned to the home menu. I pressed the hold button and on the bar at the top before I unlocked it, it displayed the name of the song that was playing before it stopped, however, I could not find the Now Playing button anywhere, nor would the iPod recognise that it was supposed to be playing that song so I had to select a new song.
Has anyone else had this problem or know a solution or even a reason why it does this?
Help appreciated.
Thanks.

Yup, exact problem.
I'll be listening to song and thn BAM. The song shuts off.
And also, I'll listen to a song then try to connect to Safari and the song shuts off.
What a waste.
I'm having this same problem--the music just stops. When I go back to view music, sometimes it shows me a song or album that I listed to an hour ago (but not the one that just stopped). And sometimes when I go back to music it I see the blank screen for a few seconds, just like when the music app restarts after syncing. And on very rare occasions the iPod resets--I see the apple logo and have to wait the 20-seconds or so while it restarts.
This is my second touch--I exchanged the first one because of this problem. So I'm guessing now that it's a software problem, not a defective unit.
I don't know what to try next. This is very frustrating. This is my first iPod and I'm really in love with it, but this is starting to make me feal like I should have bought something else.
Yesterday I did several things:
* Turned it Off then back on (hold down power button until it asks if you want it off)
* Reset it
* Went into settings and told it to forget all networks
* Went into settings and did "Reset all Settings"
And now have about 3 hours of listening with no glitches at all. Probably not all of those were necessary, but I was too frustrated to try a long & methodical test. If in the future I start having this problem again, I attempt those things one at a time and see which was the answer.
I didn't try the suggested Restore only because I did the above stuff before seeingg the suggestion.
Today I was listening to music whilst browsing through the album artwork using Cover Flow. The music stopped so I started it again. I was doing the same thing and the music stopped once again. This happened to me six times in a row! I decided to turn it off and then turn it back on again. This seemed to fix the problem, but I know that it won't have fully fixed it. This is getting beyong a joke.
I believe it is a bug in the firmware. Does anyone know when the next firmware update is? I have told Apple about this issue, along with many other issues I have been having with my iPod. Hopefully they will fix them soon.
Hey. I was having the exact same issue when listening to music, viewing youtube videos and browsing the internet. I restarted my ipod (by holding the lock/sleep button for like.. 5 seconds and then sliding the bar to shut the ipod down) and I haven't had any problems since.
Yesterday, I was listening to music and I pressed the hold button to find out the name of the song I was listening to. Upon pressing the hold button, the song stopped and when I unlocked the iPod it returned to the home screen.
Does anyone know when the next firmware update is?
