Unable to Burn CD's using iTunes

I've been trying for a couple of hours to burn a playlist onto a CD-R. I click "Burn Disk" on my iTunes screen and I insert a disc. However, all it says in the top bar is "Checking media". Then, it goes back to normal and the burning never occurs. Anyone else have this happen to them? And doesn anyone know how to fix it?

okay, first I apologize for being in the wrong folder--I own an iMac, not Windows. but for what it' worth, the geniuses at the genius bar identified my problem as a failed optical drive. Hence, a new drive is ordered and thankfully, the device failed before my one year warranty was up.

I am unable to burn CDs using iTunes 7.5 with my Samsung TS-H653B drive. I get the smae 2131 error message that others get.

I've called Dell 4 different times - first time they said they were working with Samsung to issue a patch, would be out in 2-3 weeks. Called them back and they said that it was Apple's fault since my drive burned fine with Sonic. Called back the last time and they said that Dell was working with Apple on a patch but I doubt that. Also, they said the other fixes/patches for the other Dell products were to fix other issues in addition to iTunes.

Has anyone found a patch/fix for the TS-H653B drive? Thanks!

Hello there and I am another "one" that request your help! I have Windows Home Premium Vista and the bottom line is I am getting the dreaded error "2131" unable to burn my I-tunes music to a CD-R Music. Any assistance would be much appreciated - I consider myself a non-technical person but that will soon change in time as I educate myself of preventing issues, etc.

Hi Everyone,

I've had the problem since I've upgraded to Vista, I thought it was a driver problem until I had no problem burning a CD using Media Player. However I managed to find a solution (although not ideal).

If you run a CD diagnotic in iTunes, you'll find it thinks you are not an administrator for some reason. So I created a new administrator account, and then saved my iTunes library and logged in as the new administrator account. All of a sudden the problem disappeared!!!

So it looks like iTunes can't see that I'm an administrator. If someone can tell me how to fix this particular element, I'd love it. As right now, if I want to burn a CD, I have to change account, and re-import the entire library. Bottom line is it's a pain, but at least I know it's not a driver or hardware problem.

Hope this helps everyone.

Well people...here's another unhappy camper..I'm having the same problem...iTunes verifies playlist and just stops..nada...nothing!!! I think apple should get off their butts and figure this out. I checked here to find solutions and all I found was a bunch of people with the same problem. I tried once before before the latest update and it supposedly burned but all I had was one track on the CD with nothing on it....since the latest update it does nothing but verifies playlist. It ticks me off that I purchased these songs and now I can't listen to them in my car.
I don't think I'll be purchasing another mp3 from apple. Any suggestions???

Just another PS to the CD burning problem. I thought I'd try to make an MP3 CD and then burn it from my other burning program. It copied MP3 to my DVDRW disc, but when I tried to get the songs on roxio it would only take about 4 or 5 songs out of 17. The others were listed as protected. Just wondering if this is part of the problem even though they say we can burn up to 6 times from iTunes purchases. You're better off downloading from some other site or buying the CD.....but I thought that was the whole point of buying from iTunes........grrrrr!

The 2131 error has been driving me crazy. While I don't have a direct fix, I did find a workaround, albeit by accident.

In my case, itunes didn't give the 2131 error when I used a CD-RW for burning. But, since the CD-RW didn't work in my car CD player I thought I was back to square one. But then it dawned on me that I could simply copy the CD-RW to a CD-R via my Roxio CD burner.

Not a high tech solution, but with a relatively easy and quick extra step, I can get there.

Hope that helps while we wait for Vista and/or Itunes to come up with a direct fix.
