I'm having this problem too. I fixed it once and now it's back. It's definitely just a software bug so there is no need to return or exchange your phone for this particular issue. I think that iPhoto is the problem. When you import you can't let iPhoto delete the photos from the camera (until they release an update). I'm not having the problem if I manually delete photos from my iPhone after I've imported them. Also I think you have to keep at least one photo in your library roll to prevent the issue from happening again.

Pretty annoying but at least I can see what's causing it. For me anyway.

Here's the solution!

Go here;

http://www.eastvillagepodcasts.com/2008/03/30/iphone-camera-not-working-my-solut ion/

it works! Yeah!!!!!

It points to a file for PC, but it's the same file name for Mac, located:

Home/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

In the folder named "f9dbd4d84a57c764de1876d5864f4f93fdf6640c", delete the file named "f1b43d3b3ecf259a3626c13a8b0cebd8ba513117.mdbackup".
Then Reset iphone erasing all settings, then re-sync with iTunes and restore from your backup-Voila!

When I take pictures, it showed in the camera roll only as a blank square. Whenever I clicked on one of the squares, the application crashed and the phone returned to the home screen. I will not reset the phone through iTunes, and then let iTunes restore the phone from backup, Since this has not solved the problem for others. I realyzed that when I downloaded the pictures from my phone I also downloaded the "iPod Photo Cache." Could this be the problem. Now, if this is the case... how do I get the "iPod Photo Cache" back in the iPhone... when my computer does not even recognize the camara on the iPhone? Please help...

OK, I feel this is a file corruption of some sort. I have this problem with my iPhone. Took it to Apple and they replaced it. It worked like a charm in the store. Synced my phone at home...Boom. No photo taking ability. Tried the fix method described here and it worked until my next sync. There is a file of some sort that is part of my syncing that is corrupting the cameras ability to store.

Here is a twist. I just got the new iTunes 7.7, and a new iPhone 3G. I synced it up with all my music etc and guess what? I can't friggin take pictures. Want to know the weird thing? My old Edge iPhone that no longer has service is now taking photos. I have no idea what is going on here.
I have missed three vacations so far where I could not take photos with my iPhone. I would love to use the geo tagging of photos with my new 3G iPhone. Too bad I cant take photos. Also strangely I every time I sync my 3G phone it wants to do a back up. A three hour back up!

Does Apple monitor these threads? What is the fix Steve?

Scott
