Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

iTunes store can't connect. Network connection timed out.

"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection timed out.
'Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again'"

Well, last I checked I can get on the internet, play games online, chat, do everything. There are two other computers in the room on the same router that can connect to the iTunes store. I've tried all of the solutions from support, but to no avail. I know I'm not the only one with this problem so if you've solved it anything would help.

I downloaded the new 7.5 version of I-Tunes and spent an hour an half on the phones with Apple Tech Support. They walked me through many different steps none of which worked. I have been having this problem for a few days. I turned off my firewall, that did not work. I can see my library, but thats about it. Its getting really annoying. This has to be an error on Apples side. I am sure they have to create some sort of patch to fix this. If anyone else has any further updates or informataion, please advise. Thanks and hope everyone had a Happy New Year:)

I have almost the same problem.
Cannot connect to iTunes Store. Check Internet connection, etc.
I tried everything suggested in the Apple Support articles:

1. The built-in diagnostic system said everything was fine. (This is unlike the original post to this thread.) I pasted the response below.
2. I downloaded version 7.5, just in case our version had become outdated or suffered from file corruption.
3. I disabled the popup blocker.
4. I flushed the DNS resolver cache.

The problem affects my daughter's account, but not mine. I checked the parental controls on her account and entered iTunes as a specifically allowed site. But in any case, she had been able to access it for some time (spent money there & still has some in her account!) before the problem started. But now she can't. This has been going on for awhile.

Any ideas, anyone?

I got my problem solved yesterday, although my solution may not help any of you b/c it sounds like none of us have exactly the same environment. I'm running Win XP for my OS and used (until yesteray) a Norton Antivirus 2006 from a subscription I purchased in the spring of 2006. I started trying to eliminate problems and eventually got to the setting Norton calls "Personal Firewall". Once I turned it off I could connect to the store--then I just had to deal w/ this annoying security warning every 15 seconds. I used Symantec's online chat support feature and the tech had me remove the '06 and reinstall their '07. Apparently the Internet worm protection feature had been updated about 6 weeks ago and that's when I first had a problem w/ the iTunes store. Now I'm using the Norton Antivirus 2007 and made lots of purchases at the store last night. Good luck to the rest of you. I know how frustrating it is.

I believe i tried turning off personal firewall. You went to the start button and then the control panel right? When i turned off personal firewall, that still did not solve the problem. Your saying the problem has to be with the Norton Anti-virus? If you would not mind walking me through the steps, i would really apperciate it...Thanks:)

It wasn't something I did in Windows or the Control Panel, rather it was the Personal Firewall feature in the Norton Antivirus 2006 product. Here are excerpts of my online chat w/ the Symantec tech:

Tech: Diana, do you able to open them when you turn OFF Internet Worm Protection of Norton AntiVirus 2006?

Me: The exact feature I turned OFF was called Person Firewall. I'm not sure what you mean by Internet Worm Protection. Maybe they're the same thing, but that isn't what my Norton system called it.

Tech: Okay, fine.

Me: I open my Norton Antivirus program>click "Norton Protection Center">click the "web browsing" hyperlink>click the "Norton Personal Firewall" hyperlink, then click the message saying "Turn Norton Personal Firewall Off". Then I open iTunes and can get into the iTunes store like I used to be able to w/out doing all that.

Tech: 1. First we need to download and save the Norton Removal tool from http://www.symantec.com/nrt and save it in your computer desktop.

2. Then, please run the tool and restart the computer.

Tech: 3. After this, please download and install Norton AntiVirus 2007 from http://liveupdate.symantec.com/upgrade/NAV071420.exe

Tech: 4. Then, activate it with product key (my product key here)

I followed those instructions, which got me Norton AV '07 instead of '06 and now I'm fine.

Hey everyone, I have got the same error here. Store will not connect. The official help guides aren't working for anything, nor does complete reinstallation (with all registry cleaning and stuff), firewall or antivirus, antimalware or whatever is not causing anything.. Must be a problem caused by Apple and it is disgusting!

Isn't there anything Apple could get informed of this? Looks like their having their own antivirus-support-system.

Yes, I bought Norton Antivirus 2006 online in the spring of '06. That purchase allowed me to download and install, then they sent me an email with my product key which had to be entered so I could activate my subscription and keep the live updates and enhancements going through the 2 year subscription period. I also have a Norton account established and they store my product key/activation code there so I don't have to enter it as long as I'm logged in.

I had the same problem and am also running XP. After hours of wading through cr@p on the Apple forums, I found 1 post that seemed to solve my problem of not connecting to iTunes. Try this....go into the Programs folder in your C:Drive and then go into the iTunes folder. You will see the iTunes icon there, right click it and go into properties. Then select the compatibility tab. Then tick the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' Select Windows 2000 from the drop down list. Click apply. Now go back into the same screen and untick that same box and click apply.......Hey presto - God knows why but it worked for me and obviously the original poster that I found. Good luck

By the way - Apple support seems to be shocking!! Whenever I have a prob, the only solution is to spend hours looking for some poor sod who's also had the same issue and who's been good enough to post the solution. Sort it out Apple.
