I also cannot register the Touch. When I plug it in and iTunes comes up it always has the registration page. I always go through it and all goes well till I get to the free video screen. When I click continue it then goes to my iPod summary page with an error message on top tha reads. "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The requested resource was not found. There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later. " This happens every time I plug the Touch in to the USB.
I had this happen to me as well the first time I plugged my Touch in. I didn't think much of it, however, when I pulled up the main page of my Touch in iTunes, I went through the process of updating the software on the Touch. It updated the software as well as the firmware. When the Touch booted up again, it asked me to go through the registration process again. This time I didn't receive any errors. Not sure if the software update had anything to do with it, but you may want to give it a try if you have not done so alre
I also had this problem. I got the error in Windows or Mac iTunes. I registered over the phone with Apple Care and restored the iPod to the factory state and voila... no more registration page.
I have had problems as well trying to register two different iPod Touch. I get to the "Free Videos from iTunes" screen and press OK, but then I get a screen that says basically "command could not be completed/resource unavailable".
I tried completing the registration manually, but iTunes still prompts me to register every time I connect. I could press "Never Register" but I would really like the download of "Jack Jack Attacks". Funniest animated short in a long time.
I have not seen any information about the problem on the Apple web site. I am hoping someone with Apple might pick this up.
For your Wi-Fi on the iPod Touch:
Are you broadcasting your Airport SSID? If not, you have to enter it manually in the iPod Touch. Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Choose a Network -> Other... and type in the SSID and passcode.
I got an iPod touch for Christmas and have not been able to register it due to the same error:
Every time I've attempted to register my Touch, I get the screen that says that the action cannot be completed because of an error in the iTunes store...
Is it a hardware (iPod) issue? Should I return the device?
Someone else posted a multiple step solution for registering the iPod touch if you are getting hung at the screen about the free video downloads. Before connecting the iPod to your computer, open iTunes and login to your account. Close iTunes. Open it again, verify that you are still logged in, connect the iPod and complete the steps. It worked for me. I had tried logging into iTunes and connecting the iPod and that did not work, but closing and reopening iTunes did. For what it's worth, I am using Win XP Pro. Also, I have updated to the latest version of iTunes.
I had the same problem. I tried it on both a Tiger (PPC) and Leopard (Intel) machine with the same results. I did what you suggested and viola', it works! Thanks for the solution!
I got an Ipod Touch on 12/28 and still can't register it as of today (12/31). The first page asks for your Apple ID, I enter the info, click "continue" and get a message "We are experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later".
I figured Apple is just overloaded due to the holidays.
