iTunes not Syncing

Suddenly iTunes says it's syncing, but nothing happens. The phone just goes back to charging mode, and iTunes is just stuck on the "Syncing Phone" part. If I cancel, iTunes just gets stuck on "Canceling Sync".
Any help thoughts?

Ok the exact same thing happened to me just a little while ago. I went through everything before i found this topic. Changing usb ports, restarting PB, resetting iPhone, reinstalling iTunes, erasing everything on iPhone (last successful backup at 12am so i had a fresh backup and the sync went fine then so donno what happened) everything. Then I tried this, by this I mean the whole just syncing and unchecking everything and resetting iTunes thing and thats all i had to do to make it work. Didn't have to do anything with ical or isync just simply that last step.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I too am getting this sync error. Dock my iPhone, Itunes says syncing and it just sits there not progressing. I have to cancel sync on phone and force quit iTunes because it has stopped responding. The error reports get sent to Apple and I have to try again.

Still no solution - tried rebooting, unchecking sync calendars. Still the same. Don't want to reset phone unless last resort as I have a lot of photos I need to transfer over !!!

Any other thoughts ???

This doesn't appear to be just a problem with the Mac version of iTunes, the same happened to me when I tried to sync today with my XP computer. I tried rebooting the iPhone, rebooting the computer, and running the repair option on iTunes and it still seemed to get hung up on the sync. I always only sync the music, ringtones, and photos, not calendar, contacts, or address book.

Seems very strange that this seems to be happening to people on both computer platforms, at the same time, and there hasn't been an associated iTunes or iPhone update. Almost seems like some sort of timed software bug or something.

Anyway, I just left my phone attached in sync mode and it seemed to "heal" itself after about 5 minutes and completed the sync. I tried manually synching it while iTunes was running and it seemed to work quick like normal, but when I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in, the problem reappeared. It seems to be working, but just very slow.

I had the same issue and came across something that is working.

The problem seems to be with the iCal synch. When you sync next and it has stalled out on you, go to the Info tab and be sure the iCal is NOT checked. Hit apply. You may now have to force eject and force quit itunes. the next time you sync, it should work fine with everything syching but ical. at that point, when its done synching, select iCal again in the Info tab, hit apply, and then hit sync again. it should synch everything now.

before i did this i also tried the "Reset Sync History" under iSync but i dont think that necessarily helped, its just something I also tried as a fix (after reading this board) but it didnt help me by itself.

I hope this works.

I too have suddenly started having this problem. My last successful sync was on the 24th, but when I tried to sync last night, it hung just like everyone else. After finding an obscure airport reference in google, I tried turning my airport off while the sync was 'in progress', and after about 30 seconds the sync completed with no issues. Then I turned the airport back on and syncing would work just fine as long as I kept the iphone plugged in. I also am seeing the screens saying that the sync/crash reporter has crashed from time to time.

I don't believe that I have installed anything in this time period that would cause a problem and I definitely have not installed any Apple updates during this period. For the record, I am on 10.5.1 and have not installed the most recent security update or MacBook Pro update. I usually wait for the overall OS revisions to pickup all of the interim fixes.

Last night, before I went to bed, I attempted another sync, without luck. I reset the sync history and got it working. Someone else posted that this seems to happen when the iPhone is disconnected from the computer. I have a theory, but I cannot test it myself until later. Could this possibly be an issue with the iPhone not being ejected? Even though it should not be necessary to click the little eject icon in iTunes, could it now prevent this problem from happening? I can't test this myself until later, but I'd love to know if this helps. If someone who is experiencing this problem every time they disconnect their iPhone could test out ejecting the device first, and then disconnect it from the cable/cradle, followed by a reconnect and resync... Maybe that will help?

I'm guessing here, but it's worth a shot. 🙂
