Why does Apple TV disconnect from wireless network?

Each time Apple TV goes idle it disconnects from my wireless network (AP Extreme 802.11n). Why?

I select my network, enter password, stream my iTunes library fine. But if I stop using the Apple TV for a while I have to re-select my wireless network and re-enter my password. I shouldn't have to do this.

My PC laptop stays connected to this network just fine (in fact I'm using it to write this post), so why won't my Apple TV? So far, my experience with Apple's wireless products suggets they have seriously missed the mark.

I share your pain Louis. I went so far as to change my password to something easy to key into that onscreen keyboard on the appleTV (so I had to reconfigure every other wifi device I own). I have had this same problem with sw version 2.0, 2.0.1 and now with 2.0.2. I have tried SSID broadcast on and off. I am at a loss as to what else to change. This is certainly not the "it just works" experience I expect from Apple.

The weirdest thing... as I said in my previous posting... after the 2.0.2 update, it began happening to me at least once a day. Though (and I almost feel like by me posting this now I will jinx it), it hasn't happened again in at least a week for me. Nothing has changed. No new updates. I haven't messed with any of the settings either on the Apple TV or my Apple Airport Extreme Base Station... I don't know why... but it has been staying connected. The only difference really is that I am using it more. That is I am working from home using it instead of my iPod, whereas before I wasn't. Strange, I know.

I have the exact same problem, and I know it's not my network because my macbook will still connect to my Airport Extreme, and so will my iPhone. And similarly, the ATV update did nothing. The other issue I have had is ever since I synced my ATV to iTunes, whenever I quit iTunes, it will not close the window unless I click somewhere on the screen. This happens every single time. Anyone else have this issue?

My AppleTV ran great until the 2.0.2 update, now it disconnects from my wireless network on a daily basis which is a pain. It even will disconnect/lose network connection for no reason (at least to me) when I am streaming from my G5 to the AppleTV. My base station is the Apple Airport Extreme (802.11g). My wife's MacBook has had no wireless connectivity issues ever (almost two years).

I just upgraded my internet speed from DSL to 3mbps broadband, and the problem seemed to stabilize for two days, but it is back again.

I really do love my AppleTV, but this problem is severely annoying...

I have written about this in the past few days in a topic myself... My ATV went haywire the day iTunes rolled out films and the 'extra' movie menus appeared on my ATV.

I've had a little play about to see what I can do to fix this problem, and for the moment I've managed to FIX IT!

Firstly I tried switching off my MBPro and ATV and then on again and that made no difference at all. Then I did it all again but this time I reset my BTHomeHub router too. And... It all worked again. So, my attention was focused on the router.

I have a lot of neighbours around me with wireless hubs on all sorts of channels. I did used to have my router on a fixed channel (but to cut a long story short my BThub went wrong and had to hard reset making it go back to auto channel selection, never bothered to return it). So I fixed my router to a channel that nobody else was using (you can quite easily observe this with the use of a wireless scanning program).

I also decided to fix the IP address of my MBpro and the AppleTV within the router. Not sure if you can do this on all of them because they do differ a little. And additional I deleted the 'ethernet' connection that I'd made previously using with the AppleTV.

Still all working well as we speak, maybe worth a try folks. Hope it helps.

Dooh, spoke too soon. Almost made it six days, but now my AppleTV is nowhere to be found in iTunes. Back to the same problem. What is going on here? It worked great for the first month I had it. This isn't supposed to happen with a second generation Apple product, or is quality control going south in Cupertino? Don't get me started on what a boondoggle Leopard has been...
