error invalid number

I keep getting this, "Error invalid number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code," every time I try to send a test message to someone. Yes, I have put a 1 and area code in front of the number and still nothing. Anyone have this problem? Any solutions? Thanks for the help in advance.

I have, but Att has no answer and they keep sending me to apple and vice versa.

Are you sure the number that you are trying to send the TXT message to is a mobile number? You will get this message if you send to a landline number.

I definitely know that they are mobile numbers. I was able to text these people before I had the iphone.

Having the exact same problem, although as best I can remember it only started happening to me today.

I reset everything and it did not help
