I too recently got a SE K750i, and it's a great phone and all, but the "kernel panic on USB Disconnect" issue is very troublesome.

Just playing around with trying to get it to not panic, I found that booting to safe mode in 10.4.1 (hold shift on startup) allows me to connect and disconnect to my hearts content without kernel panics. Booting up normally causes the panics to return. I haven't tested on 10.3.9 just yet though.

Also, on discovering the constant panicking when disconnecting the cable, I figured I might as well attach it and leave it attached. After a while, I noticed my phone had less battery power than when I first connected it. I haven't tried testing it again since I don't want to deal with the panics either.

After reading a hint ( http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050519185817705) at www.macosxhints.com it seems I'm starting to get somewhere... Finally I can synchronise my Contacts from Address Book with my K750!!!

This is what I did:

- Deleted my previously modified iSync app
- Extracted the original iSync application from the Tiger install DVD using Pacifist ( http://www.charlessoft.com/)
- Put the un-modified iSync app back in 'Applications'
- Using the Apple Developer Tools 'Property List Editor' I edited an existing phoneplugin file to match the SonyEricsson V800 but with K750 identification info. The MetaClasses.plist file was slightly different to the one linked to in the earlier post of this thread.
- Made a folder in the main 'Library' folder called 'PhonePlugins'
- Put my 'SonyEricssonK750.phoneplugin' file in there
- Deleted the ~/Library/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
- Deleted the ~/Library/com.apple.iSync.plist
- Deleted the contents of ~/Library/Phones
- Restarted the computer
- Deleted pairing info from the phone and the phones Contacts
- Went through the usual pairing process and iSync set-up
- Turned off the Calendar syncing in the iSync window
- Did a sync and it worked!

If I turn on Calendar syncing and sync I get the following error:

"An unexpected exception occured while synchronizing the device."

Fortunately if I turn Calendar syncing back off Contact syncing works again!

Here's the PhonePlugin file I made (as a zipped folder):
http://www.feisar.plus.com/sync/PhonePlugins.zip

To install it, drop the unzipped 'PhonePlugins' folder in the main 'Library' folder (NOT the users 'Library' folder).

If you've already made the modification to the iSync app from the post earlier in this thread you'll probably need to replace it with the original un-modified iSync app from the Tiger install DVD with Pacifist. Then follow the steps I took above.

If you get the "Can't connect to channel on device (Server might be down)." you should try restarting the phone to get rid of it.

Hopefully this will work for you if the previous MetaClasses.plist hack didn't... Now to see if I can get Calendar syncing working...

Ok, so I found out a little more about the kernel panics when disconnecting the K750i.

How do we normally disconnect our K750i's? Do we just unmount the Memory Stick from the desktop and then unplug the phone and get the kernel panic (or run kextstat from terminal to force it)?

I just happened to get a larger Memory Stick, and decided to look a little more into what causes the panics.

So I tried this:
1) Unmounted the volume from desktop
2) Took the memory stick out of the phone *
3) unplugged the phone from USB.
4) ran kextstat and crossed my fingers.

The computer didn't crash. My PBG4 is still running, an hour after I disconnected the phone.

Apparently, step 2, physically taking the memory stick out of the phone --before-- unplugging the phone from USB will not cause a kernel panic on my machine. Does this work for anyone else?

(I'm going to try to disconnect the phone again without taking the memory stick out to see if the panic will happen again, just to test)

Edit: Ok, this is not good. I got another kernel panic on attaching the phone this time. So it looks like the steps mentioned above prevent a panic on disconnecting the phone, but simply reconnecting the phone in that same session caused a kernel panic on my machine. This is really frustrating since the only reason I really want to use the USB Cable in the first place is to charge the phone.

On your phone, you might want to check the Time & Date settings on the phone. The settings that would likely come into play are the Time Zone settings and the Daylight Saving settings.

On my phone, I had to set my time zone, then set the time incorrectly one hour behind the clock on my computer on purpose, then set Daylight Saving time (which added the hour back) to get the correct time.

Alternatively, if your provider supports it and sends out time synch signals, you can try setting the Auto Time Zone option, where your phone will change its clock to match that from your provider's.

Okay, I got the s/e k750i today and it is my first BT handy at all, so I have no experience with syncing so far. First hack didn't work. The hack described above works, means: I can see the phone in the iSync app. I forced it via the menu to sync (the silver button didn't work) and then I got the blue progress bar for the first time.

For about 2 seconds the phone and iSync showed »syncing« status, I heard a sound from the mobile that it's finished — and I have not one contact more on my mobile. :-/

My whole address book is full but my mobile isn't. Any help?

After 5 hours of trying every possible solution mentioned here I have finally got it to work!

K750i and 10.4.1, unbranded phone. I deleted all the references to the phone, off and on the phone then paired from the Mac and selected only the "Set up iSync to transfer contacts and events" with the iSinc off then started iSync and on initial sync, select 'Merge data on computer and device'.

Before all of this I also reseted the Synk History in iSync preferences.

Hope this works for you...

May I ask if you used the Phone Plugin method (from Julian Wright, http://mobile.feisar.com ) or did you modify the MetaClasses.plist file inside the iSync application?

---------
I originally used the modified plist method and had trouble getting it working, but once it started syncing, it worked well.

Once the plugin was developed (thanks Julian!) I figured it was better to sync that way, reverted my plist file to default and took out the tiff file I added. Since then, everything has been working well.

I haven't tried modifying a contact in the phone yet to see if it disappears from the phone or in Address Book... mainly because it's rare that an opportunity comes up where I would need to. I usually just modify it on the computer and sync it over.

Just for input's sake:
I have an unbranded k750i, and I have the kernel panic problem, I don't know much about it, but I get the "please turn of your computer blah" kind of freeze up
I have only tried the usb connection once. (I will try taking the memory stick out forst some time soon, and update)
as for bluetooth, works fine, iSync works with replaced metaclasses file and that's all dandyI need usb only for the photos because bluetooth is just too slow.
and quick question... do mac programmers ever browse these pages and use the input for the updates ?

Ever since K700i, I have trouble syncing my phone and iSync.

When I had the K700i, things were fine. Things added on my computer would be added on K700i every time I sync; however, items created or modified on K700i would not always be reflected on my computer after syncing.

Now with K750, I am having the same problem. What do you guys think???
