Motorola RAZR v3

Just purchased the Motorola RAZR v3 after seeing it on the apple isync website.

It connects well with iSync using tiger and bluetooth.

Have worked out how to send and recieve pictures between devices.

My problems are that when downloading info from address book to phone. I get two seperate listings on the phone for phone number and email address for each person. Who can I get them to merge on the phone?

Another thing is that there is no where to store postal addresses. Big disappointment.

Nowhere to store any other info like my old Nokia could in its wallet area.

When sending appointments to phone. Appointments appear in phone, but the alarm time dosn't register.

Also no birthday dates with alarms where downloaded either.

I like the look of the phone. Very sexy. But its software and compatability are poor. Would rather get rid of all games and other gimmicky rubbish off the phone to have these other more important features to work.

I rang Motoroller who gave me the runaround. There tech department in Sydney told me they do not support mac or no anything about it. They said I should call Apple support. I think apple should remove the phone from its website!

Anyone have any suggestions or similar problems. Out there.

Thanks

Greetings

After much messing about I've managed to get the V3 to talk to my PowerBook via Bluetooth and make a GPRS connection to the web. I tried all the suggestions on this board and a number of others to no avail. Ultimately, I had to create a new modem script by taking parts from a couple of other scripts.

I've posted the script I'm using and some basic instructions at www.thepdaguy.com for those that are interested. I've only tested this with my specific config and carrier but I can't see why it won't work with others.

Anthony

Hi,
My razr transferred photos well via bluetooth and sync'd with iCal using the "bluetooth cable" (still don't get that but it worked...) under 10.3

Now that I have Tiger it still connects, I get the three little folders "audio, picture, video" but when I double click to see the pictures the first time it just gets busy saying "getting folder contents" as per normal and then says "operation complete" BUT now with no result. If I click again I get "The operating Failed" with either timout or "incorrect instruction" as the reason given. (not consistent)
have rebuilt and tried on both my dual G5 deskto and G4 laptop, same result.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Everything works fine for me except when I transfer calendar items from iCal I can't seem to read any information other than the event and time. It doesn't transfer notes information in to the V3's datebook. It would be good to be able transfer phone number and location information for an appointment as well. Does anyone have a workaround to this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice...

Hi,

I tried out the v3 in the shop here in Switzerland. I could
pair it with the bluetooth setup tool and browse the device,
but iSync first didn't recognize the phone, then only internet services have been activated (no address synchronization possible). I can confirm the unstable behaviour of the phone.

Further, it's a shame that there are no phones available with the necessary features only, but working... Everything a phone doesn't need works fine with that phone...

Gonna wait for the Sony Ericsson z520 - and try it out first.

Have fun
Matthias

..."My problems are that when downloading info from address book to phone. I get two seperate listings on the phone for phone number and email address for each person. Who can I get them to merge on the phone? "...

If you go to address book setup on the Razr (main->address book-><middle button: options> -> setup

you can choose to view by Primary Contacts or All Contacts.

If you have a single Mac Address Book entry with multiple phone number, email addresses, etc., when you view by Primary Contact, you see only the one you have listed as "primary" in that entries options page. When you view the Razr phone book list, you will see only that entry. If you view that entry, using the down button will view the other entries as well.

At least that's the way it works on mine: Software version R374 G_0E.40.57RA1

Lionell,

I'm going to suggest for Douglas something, in case he doesn't get back to you. He mentioned a "bluetooth cable" -- perhaps he is meaning to say he used a USB cable with 10.3

I read one other posting that mentioned using a USB cable as well, but it really didn't have much in the form of details. I am going to try that idea out as well, as I wasn't really planning to upgrade to Tiger.

Hope that helps.

Hi Douglas, I have had the same problem and I was wondering if you had a solution? I did come up with an idea. I tried sync using a blue tooth connection withe the original razr and had the same problems you were having. A friend of mine has the black one and he had no issues. I tried the same connection with the same procedure and got the same result on the same computer. From this I gather that it could be the software on the V3...since the black one is newer and has up to date software. I checked both phones and they did have software so this may be the issue. I am going to try to bring the phone to cingular to see if they can update it. Another solution is the usb cable which worked fine but I couldn't find a way to transfer pictures or ringtones. I don't know if this is possible or not but it would be great to know if anyone knows how to with USB please let me know.

Just bought a new Razr V3 as well, and love it and hate it for same reason. I also spent 1 1/2 hours on phone woth Motorola and T Mobile Tech Support, and they gave me same line (reading it over and over) that they do not support Macintosh, and would only support Windows XP, Windows NT, Windows 2000, etc., etc., until I was ready to explode.

I can only synch part of my iCal calendar (2 weeks) from Mac to phone. This makes keeping a calendar on phone rather useless. I agree, less games, more productivity on phone would be nice. Any one else have any luck?
