iTunes 7.6 No Audio When Playing a Music Video or Movie

I just installed iTunes 7.6.0.29 (It was released today).

There is no audio when playing a music video or a movie that I've purchased. Movie trailers and music videos in the iTunes store have no audio either. Videos from iTunes University that I've downloaded (such as an MIT lecture) play fine w/ audio.

Music audio (such as tracks I've purchased or tracks on the iTunes store) play fine.

QuickTime videos, such as a QT video on my desktop play fine. Windows Media Player works fine too.

So, why don't music videos and movies play (w/audio) on iTunes 7.6??

Dell XPS, Windows XP

I reported about a similar issue here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6357358

After updating to iTunes 7.6 not only the audio is gone, but also the picture. This affects only my purchased movies or TV shows (only encrypted movies?), Podcast videos just play fine.

Symptom: When starting to play a movie, only a gray screen is displayed, and while the marker is moving, neither the video can be seen, nor the audio can be heard.

Stand-alone QuickTime trailers play fine. Music plays fine.

So it cannot be a QuickTime problem. It's definitely related to the iTunes 7.6 update.

I guess that I've solved the problem (at least on my PC). Here's what I've done:

- Deactivated my computer in iTunes (menu: Store).
- Completely deinstalled iTunes, QuickTime and any other Apple software.
- Reinstalled iTunes 7.6 with QuickTime 7.4.
- Activated my computer again in iTunes.

Now I could at least SEE the movies, but still NO AUDIO in purchased movies (only)! Music, Podcast videos and movie trailers played just fine WITH audio. Well, then I did this:

- Deinstalled the "Bonjour" service.
- Deinstalled the "Apple Mobile Device" service.
- Deinstalled the "Apple Software Update" application.

And voilà: Purchased movies playes with audio again! I haven't figured out, which one of the 2 above services (Bonjour or Apple Mobile Device) is responsible for the problem, but I strongly recommend to try this solution and see, if it works for you.

Please keep us posted!

Enjoy!

Aha! One additional step to Markoto and I restored Audio.
After uninstalling everything as listed. I again uninstalled iTunes, restarted the PC and reinstalled.

This time when installing, I unchecked the box for automatic updates.
When the installer finished and iTunes started, the audio for my video was restored.

Of course, I don't have the Software update application anymore, but that's fine with me.

Sorry this is not a Valid fix and I don't want Apple to think less of this problem now some someone has jumped thru technical hoops in order to fix it. I am not uninstalling and deactivating and rebooting. Fix iTunes, this is what is screwed up so fix the problem! I hope this is fixed soon or I will be looking for my money back for all my video content.

I had to uninstall and then reinstall iTunes and Quicktime to get my iPhone up and running. I'm not doing it again, and every time there is an update. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops, a la "Microshaft", in order to update software. That's why they have the nifty "update" button, so that it's all done for us. At least my iPhone still works...I think.

ok, so i had your same problem. i don't know if you guys had the same issue i did, but i fiddled around with it, and realized if i played with it in the music and got sound that i could cut out with the music still playing and then select a video. the music would stop and the video would start. still, i really don't like that we don't really have an accessable volume control...maybe a little thing next to the battery life? hope this helps someone, cause I am NOT going through all that work of uninstalling, i paid 300 for this, the least they can do is make it easy to use, which, so far, i haven't really seen. i like the product, it's just hard as **** to use
