Hello - I have followed the instructions from Apple & McAffee (security software) to open both TCP Port 3689 and UDP Port 5353 and removed any conflicts. My iTunes sees the Apple TV as a Device. It shows the GB left on the hardrive, etc. but when I go to sync a 3689 Port Error is displayed and the Apple TV disappears from iTunes. Any ideas to correct this problem?
Not really up to speed on PC's but can you elaborate on your error, does it say the port is blocked or does it just say there is an error, does it give an error code.
It says; "The Apple TV "Apple TV" is not responding. Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689.
Just bought my Apple TV today and I'm having the same issue. The Apple Support document talks about enabling "iTunes File Sharing" in the Sharing tab of System Preferences, but that option isn't there in Leopard. The Firewall tab is located under "Security" in System Preferences, but there's nothing in there that helps either.
I ran into the same issue. There's another thread somewhere about it. I appears there is some problem with the iTunes upgrade. The solution is to reinstall iTunes 7.6. You don't need to uninstall iTunes, just get the installer and reinstall and the firewall issues will go away. Worked for me.
Reinstalling iTunes worked to a degree. It began syncing just fine and then I ran into a new problem. It will sit and say it is syncing for a few minutes, then the Apple TV suddenly disappears from my device list and the shows that were syncing disappear from the Apple TV. If it weren't already past midnight I might consider taking this thing back.
Simply restart Apple TV. Worked for me after updating iTunes 7.6. I also turn off AirPort Express... don´t know it I had the conflict because it was on for the first time simultaneously.
OK, I had the same problem after installing 7.6 and, after reading through the forums, decided to Repair Permissions on my iMac's drive. After doing this and rebooting, all is well!
If you are on a Windoze machine, reinstalling iTunes may fix the problem. My guess is that uninstalling and re-installing iTunes would for sure.
I had the same message, and as a PC user I simply chose the repair option for iTunes in Add/Remove Programs. It immediately began syncing after I restarted iTunes.
If you're using McAffee's firewall make sure the Windows firewall is disabled. If the Windows firewall is also enabled that could be the cause of the problem.
I tried this, and it did not work. I've even tried uninstalling and disabling all firewall software, and I still get this error message. There isn't a problem w/ my network, as a MacBook that's on the network will sync fine - there's just a problem with my computer (Win xp).
Just set up my ATV this w/e and had the 3689 port error come up. Didn't go down the route of installing/re-installing iTunes but tackled it from TCP/IP settings. If you can connect via Ethernet then do so and configure the settings on the ATV screen. This will allow you to Sync. The Wireless setup might have picked up the TCP/IP settings of your router connected to the internet i.e. your ISP IP address. Change the connection settings to your local network IP & subnet mask set up and it should work fine.
DrWho, what do you mean "turn off airport express"? I'm assuming you have an airport express utilized for airtunes, but why would that conflict with AppleTV?
