Syncing between my MAC and RAZR V3

I recently got one of those Motorola RAZR V3 phones and tried to use iSync with it. It finds the phone OK, and does a sync but it deletes the entries in the datebook on the phone! It's rather annoying and I can't seem to get iCal insync with the datebook. All the appointment are just getting deleted and stored in iCal.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong or is that just the way it works with that phone?

Thanks,
Tom.

Got this from another forum and it worked for me.

I sync my RAZR with my Powerbook using iSynch. Works great. Settings are as follows:

Turn on Motorola Phone Synchronization is checked.

Contacts is checked.

Synchronize All Contacts. Click on Options... and I don't have

Synchronize Email addresses or Synchronize Fax numbers checked.

Only synchronize contacts with phone numbers is checked.

Calendars is checked.

All radio button is filled.

Put events created on phone into: Home

Get events for the next: 8 weeks

Events Time Zone: GMT

As a rule, it deletes everything on my Phone that is over a week old. I'm not sure if that's a setting I chose at some point when I first started using it, but that's what it does.

I can finally get my RAZR to sync using iSync ( insert hallelujah chorus here). Now to another problem. I would like to use some of my photos (from iphoto) as wallpaper. Does anyone know how to do this? I tried to send to my RAZR using BT file exchange after shrinking the file and resolution in photoshop (jpeg file) and it tried to do it a few times with the "file wrong type" error message. Now it just tell me that my phone "device can not be validated".

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Golapendu

It seems to take almost any amount of fields as long as they contain a phone number or an eMail address. Though, nothing else. I'd like it to tranfer pictures, because I don't like having to add a contact picture to his/hers every number... addresses would be nice too... but it's Motorola's fault for making a primitive phonebook application on their phones.

Tom,

I just dumped my treo and went back to a regular cell phone. I've had 2 treos and they are great. But the phone is the problem. its just not a good phone. bad reception, dropped calls, multiple attempts to connect. I was driven crazy by the phone solution. However, it works great with the mac if you are using 'missing sync' software. I synced with my ical, apple addressbook, etc. plus the treo has so many great programs. I would get one again if i could confirm that the phone worked better. so off to razr land now. its no PDA, but at least i can control the contacts that go into it.

take care,
jp

I just purchased a new 15 in powerbook and have been trying to set up my silver RAZR in iSync. The PB recognizes the phone when I go through BT setup assistant but can't find the device when I go to add a device in iSync.
To confuse matters further, I was able to set it up with iSync on my old PB with the same iSync 2.1 and Tiger 10.4.2 using an external Belkin USB BT module.

Any advice?

joseph,

i'm able to sync using bluetooth with my G5 desktop, but have to use a usb cable for my G4 laptop. running panther on the laptop. don't know why it won't appear in the isync bar without plugging it in.

advice: make a subset in you addressbook called 'cellphone'. then put all the contacts you want on your phone in that. when you set the isync prefs you can choose what group to sync, choose 'cellphone'. i've found it eliminates a who lot of junk names and emails that you don't want on your phone. its no PDA, but its a cool phone.

Im also having problems with the Razr and iSync.

can someone tell me why the address book will send data to the Razr but the Razr wont send data through iSync to the address book?

the only way i can send a contact FROM the Razr is if i select contact in Razr and and go through motorolas procedure of sending a SINGLE contact at a time. and it dumps the contact in my documents folder as a vCard. i then have to take that vCard and drop it into address book.

cant the Razr send ALL contacts to the mac at once? and why cant the razr send the contacts to iSync when iSync runs a syncing session?

iSyn will sync contacts from AddressBook to the razr but not visa-versa.
