i just upgraded to 7.6, after having numerous problems with 7.5. now i still have all of the problems of 7.5 (burning/importing very very slow), but now, itunes 7.6 keeps freezing for like 30 secs, about every other minute. its INCREDIBLY annoying. anyone got any tips on how to fix this?
example: when i right click on a song, the menu doesnt pop up for 30 secs, and if im listening to a song, the track time will freeze for about 30 secs.
this topic is growing....I am having the excact same problem with 7.6 - the CPU maxes out, task manager/applications status reports that iTunes is NOT RESPONDING. The whole computer system slows down for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then, when I try to finish what I was doing with iTunes and the situation repeats. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, from scrolling to a right click, switching around playlists, even anything with the iPod. What should take not even seconds, now takes half an hour.
My failed attemts of a solutions
- redownloaded 7.6(no luck)
- uninstale everything Apple from the control panel/add or remove program Everything from this new Bonjour program, to the software updater, quicktime, etc. Then redownloaded from the Apple site. and still No improvements.
i share your INCREDIBLE annoyance, Takashi
a lesson to be relearned, never instal the initial update
Apple must have been in SUCH A HURRY to make $$$ off of movie rentals they rushed a bad update file and will probably lose more money because users can't even spend $0.99 for a song much less rent a movie without facing major problems with the software.
Maybe Apple may re-learn their lesson....they've had years to learn from Microsoft's mistakes... guess they didnt pay attn.
7.5 worked fine. "Upgraded" 2 days ago and can longer access Itunes. Get
an error messege. Tried to access through Windows but it crashed everytime
I tried "Apple.com or Itunes", Explorer had to close. Tried to remove
Itunes and Quiktime. Quiktime has a "fatal error" which apparently
prevents removle. I had to load Firefox just to get to Apple, which
isn't helping. Help! 35,000 songs going to waste!
Greed is the reason Wal-Mart is the LAST place I would want to shop now. More profit and less store and less customer service.
If Apple keeps customers first (by making products and software that ARE NOT RUSHED or not beta tested) they can be like Target and appeal to ppl instead of like Wal-Mart which is now the dumps of shopping.
i had to go this far back in my downgrading. but you have to delete the itunes library file, and re-upload your entire library again. and its really fun getting all your album artwork back. i will not be upgrading my itunes again anytime soon.
I had same problem; but fixed the freezing issue by uninstalling itunes and everything associated with it including apple update, quicktime, bujoir service, and the portable device manager. Then rebooted and reinstalled itunes. However, now i have no sound when video is played; so go figure.
Well, i now fixed where my video has audio will work together; but am still experiencing freezing problems (i thought the freezing problem was gone; but was wrong).
It "appears" that my computer is not freezing during audio video playback although must say that videos take a long time to load and sometimes i wonder if there going to load as there is nothing that says it is loading.
Now to the more problematic issue. When i download any purchased media from itunes store, it will download but then completely freeze my computer at the end of the download; itunes completely locks my computer and even locks the dialog box of task manager when you hit control alt delete (which i find pretty amazing). It did it twice in a row on two different downloads so so far its 100% of the time. Only way to reboot is to turn off the power and restart my computer. Is anyone else experiencing this type of freezing?
Yup, same problem here. Freezes a few seconds after launch. Can't update my iPhone or iPod, as soon as I plug either in, iTunes launches, then subsequently freezes, and shows +100% cpu usage in activity monitor. Force quit required.
Totally useless version, and even worse that I can't update my iPhone with all of my new appointments and contacts. Worthless now as a business tool.
My freezing iTunes 7.6 happens only when I try to resize an iTunes window playing video. The freeze is always permanent requiring (gasp!!) holding down the power button to restart. This is NOT good Cupertino. My $3300 MacBook Pro doesn't like that! 10.5.2 better have some bug fixes.
I'm having the exact same problems. Tried complete uninstall, no iTunes love. On my 3 other machines 7.5 works perfectly. Watching Windows task manager is a indicator of my ability to have any input into iTunes. I suspect 7.6 is trying to phone home and the Apple servers are not responding causing the freeze.
Well... the RIAA's dream goal is to be able to track and keep a database on EVERYONE that has music on their computer AND a complete database on the individual music on each computer.
Looks like Apple is aiding in their conquest.
So many ppl phoning home (with hidden iTunes software) keep getting a busy signal and causing iTunes to freeze up ppls computer.
ha! So many greedy hands trying to get into my computer. Apple was the LAST company I thought would try to intrude into my privacy.
It is terrible that the software has been put out in this state. Cuctomer support is indicating that it's our PCs. Yet, none of us had these issues in prior versions. Let's keep discussing this and maybe Apple will respond. I wonder if they are actually looking at this this weekend or this is viewed as a lower class issue (get to it when they get to it or in the next release)...
I can barely use iTunes. I am now forced once a day to use it to download podcasts and then sync. The PC must be left alone as iTunes drags down the rest of the PC and iTunes goes from freezing to slow-response...
Yeah, I am toasted too. I was running 7.5 perfectly and could run several other programs at one. Now with 7.6 the computer locks up with just iTunes running. Checked my processes and it looks like somedbody is trying to do a lot of talking to my computer and it is locking me down.
Pretty low that we are being slammed by an information dragnet.
If anybody has a way around this please post or send me an email so I can get back to relative normal.
