iTunes 7.6 Keeps Freezing!

i just upgraded to 7.6, after having numerous problems with 7.5. now i still have all of the problems of 7.5 (burning/importing very very slow), but now, itunes 7.6 keeps freezing for like 30 secs, about every other minute. its INCREDIBLY annoying. anyone got any tips on how to fix this?

example: when i right click on a song, the menu doesnt pop up for 30 secs, and if im listening to a song, the track time will freeze for about 30 secs.

I was having trouble with iTunes 7.6 freezing when I attempting to close the application. If I disable the Bonjour service everything works fine (apart from obviously the sharing functionality is disabled).

To disable Bonjour, I right clicked on My Computer and selected Manage. Then went to Services and Applications, Services, select "##Id String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC5BB94B879762##" and pressed "Stop". Then right clicked, selected properties and change the Start-up type from "Automatic" to "Disabled".

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit as an administrative user, but with UAC enabled.

Hope that helps someone else,

Martin.

I could care less if Bonjour was contacting the FBI or Celine Dion....

I'm not complaining about Bonjour - My first complaint was hidden software being installed without my prior knowledge or my permission. My 2nd complaint is new iTunes constantly freezes and makes my entire computer useless.

How about I give you a free Screen Saver? And without telling you, I install an Anti-Virus...for free! I bet you would complain. Seeing as you only wanted the Screen Saver. Or better yet, say I install a software program that constantly pings your printer just to make sure its there...but don't tell you I installed it.

My complaint is not with Bonjour. It's with Apple for putting stuff I didn't ask for on my PC.

I've been having this same problem since 7.5 upgrade. itunes freezes my computer completely and I have to reboot to gain control again. Now with 7.6 I see that a lot of people are experiencing the same thing I've been dealing with. So I won't be upgrading to 7.6 just to gain more problems on top of my already buggy 7.5 problems. ("Better the Devil you know"). I read on here after an exhaustive search that there was going to be a fix for the 7.5 bungle after the first of the year. And I almost downloaded the 7.6 upgrade unchecked, in hopes of solving these very maddening annoyances. I'm so glad now that I didn't. Things just seem to be getting worse. So I will be waiting until they get it right. Or at least until I no longer see these issues in the posts.

I am having the same issue. I've reinstalled iTunes, deleted/recreated my music library, deleted files in \Application data folder, and deleted the Itunes folder in my music however none of that helped. I did however find something interesting. My problem is only when I access my library. If I connect my Ipod and play music from it everything works fine. I can navigate around the menus in Itunes and work with my Ipod. Also, I am able to play audio CD’s with no problems. However, once I attempt to access my music library iTunes starts to freeze.

Roy B-

That's a good list to check through...I have done most of those steps. However, it is not a reasonable step to essentially recreate the entire database or songs from scratch to ensure that the problem is not with corrupted data-base files. Really, the software should do the check and pull a backup of the data if there is a corruption. It would take some of us 100s to 1000s of hours to redo all our work and playlists (ratings, years covers, etc). I have 140 Gb of data and 12000 items. I have already spend 48-96 hours to figure out what the heck was going on with software that did not exhibit the same abnormal behavior in its prior release. I keep hangong on and checking to see if Apple will offer any help...
