Method to downgrade iPod software from 1.1 to 1.0.3

Based on problems with 3G iPod nano software v 1.1, the following is a way to get back to v 1.0.3 which will resolve these issues until Apple gets the bug fixed. The following link describes the issues:

To get back to 1.0.3, first go to your User Library > iTunes > iPod and remove the two files labeled as "iPod_26.1.1". I also removed any "previous iTunes Libraries" from my User Documents > Music folder. Then turn off your internet connection to prevent an automatic update to version 1.1. After opening iTunes and connecting the iPod, you can then "Restore", and it will ask if you want the previous version that you have in your library. After restore and sync, you're back in business!!

After 3+ months since the 1.1 "upgrade", we are still waiting for a fix to many issues.

C'mon Apple, the AppleTV team has released two updates since the ATV 2.0 release, and these have fixed almost all those issues. Whatever happened to cross-team meetings?

We especially need a fix for the bloated "other" category, which is now swallowing up 20% of my nano capacity. I couldn't find room for a rented movie if I wanted one.

I'm sorry to add to any confusion, but I'm relatively clueless, and frustrated. We have yet to update our Windows XP 2002 to service pack 2 because of problems we had when we last updated. But, I received a ipod nano (8 GB "red" if that makes a difference) as a gift and would like to use it! Problem is after initially working well, then wierd stuff started happening, so I went to the Apple store and they suggested I upgrade ipod firmware and itunes, which I did and now the computer cannot even see my ipod. I called for help and they wouldn't tell me how to revert to old ipod firmware, but I don't even know which version I had and now need to be compatible with service pack 1. I should also revert to an older version of itunes, but again, which one? And, how do I do these changes? Thanksn for any advice

Well, the latest iPod nano software 1.1.2 with iTunes 7.6.2 has done nothing to fix the syncing problems with contacts, calendars, and notes with disk mode enabled. Nor is there any relief from the bloated "other" category when photos are synced. So once again, I'm back to 1.0.3.

It's now been almost 5 months since the movie rental "upgrade". Fortunately, I'm not watching rented movies on a tiny iPod, so the 1.0.3 is still my standard.
