Should i be using ProRes?

I'm working with footage shot with the HVX200 on p2 cards at these specs (as listed by log and transfer):
format: 720p24
shooting rate: 24
Source: DVCPRO HD 720p60
Transcode to: DVCPRO HD 720p60

Remove advanced pull down is unchecked.

When i queue the ftg it comes in at 59.94fps and sequences set with DVCPROHD@59.94 work without any problems. this makes sense.

My final output on this project is SD-DVD and commonly it is an HD out.

I'm curious about apple prores and how to ingest using that compression from footage shot on p2's. As well, i 'm curious about the benefits of using PR over DVCPRO-HD. Any differences on storage requirements/disk speeds?

Will prores compression be less taxing on the processor?

My system is 8-core 3ghz xeon / eSATA 2tb RAID / aja kona3 / 4gb ram.

thanks to all that contribute.

Shane,

You have still not understood my workflow but never mind that. I am not shooting at 1080p is the whole problem. This cam shoots at 1080i or 720p BUT not at 1080p.. and my client wants the output to be 1080p.

Thanks a ton for calmly reading my problem and suggesting different ways to set everything right...

And dont worry sane Shane I aint in a mess! Some way or the other I will get rid of this stupid situation.... Till then I am enjoying this situation!

Kanika

Sorry, I guess I don't know what you are doing.

Your client wants 1080p...but 1080p what? Quicktime file? DVD? Tape....HDCAM? D5? Typically what you'd do is take your final project, export it natively (QT Movie, sequence settings), reimport that, drop that in a 1080p sequence, resize, render, then output. OR...if you have a capture card, output via the card if it had the ability to cross convert (like the AJA Kona 3).

And once again I have Shane to my rescue....

Ok I will tell u in a more simple way... We have shot footage in DVCPRO HD 1080i60 with vid rate of 23.98fps... In the sequence settings my editing timebase is 23.98fps but I am confused with which compressor to use so as to convert 1080i to 1080p... My client wants a Quicktime file which has a frame rate of 24fps and is not interlaced by any chance....

If you wana ask any other questions, I would be glad to answer....

Thanks a lot friend!
