Should I buy a MacBook now or wait?

Hi!

Well, I'm willing to buy a new MacBook! However I'm not sure if I buy now or wait some time. I want something that won't be replaced by other version so quickly. I've heard about a new MacBook version including a trackpad with multi-touch technology... So what do you think. Should I buy it now, or wait for something new?

Thanks in advance.

Just as I was about to take the plunge, I'm worried again! Is the MB display poor then?

I wouldn't be using it for games, just photo work, DVD creation and MS Office. I was assuming that a MBP would be over the top for this but if it has a significantly better display is it worth the extra £600 / £770? Actually looking at the price difference I think I've just answered my own question and I'll stick to the MB!

Don't be! MacBook is an excellent laptop and with this new update, it's even better. I used several times MB and MB Pro from some friends and family members.
This difference is not so big and once your priorities are others than playing and doing other activities requiring huge graphics, there's no problems...

I agree, I was hoping for a standard macbook with LED display since the air has a 13 inch LED it seems logical that the MB would be next. Still, todays updates are very nice. I'm on the fence, my state has a tax free weekend coming up next month. This will be my first mac purchase, should buy now or hold out for the next update that should certainly include the LED display? I'm not as interested in the multi-touch as I am in the display upgrade. I don't want to wait around another 6 months! So, what do you think, buy now or hold on just a little longer?

Vikingsfan,

It's probably going to be while before the Macbooks are upgraded again. End of summer or fall IMHO. If you need it now go for it. It's a great machine. It just could have been better with an LED display 😉

It's my guess that Apple held off on the LED display because they still cost alittle bit too much over the "old" display. Although Apple now has a BTO option of $100 on the 17" MBP with the LED display.

Hi,
although not quite as bad as the above commentor I have only had my Black MacBook for about 3 weeks. I deliberated and researched and deliberated again...not sure...will I wait...no, go for it!

Now I am absolutely fizzing...I realise that technology moves on but 3 weeks. I bought the Black one so I had the best MacBook available. Now it's not even as good as the "middle" white one.

I know Apple provided free upgraded to Leopard...do you think they upgrade my RAM of Hard-drive for free? Does anyone knwo who I would need to contact?

Tomorrow makes my MB two weeks old. I've done called the Knoxville store to get a replacement, they're charging me a 15% restocking fee, but the way I look @ it... I'd be paying that in RAM and HDD replacement, and I'm getting the 200Mhz / Core as an added bonus. So it may cost me 180 to restock... and it may also cost me 40 in gas to get there (gotta love gas prices), but to me, I paid a good price for this, it's my first Mac, and I LOVE it, I want to squeeze everything out of it as much as I can.

thanks lenn,
I don't "need" a new notebook right now, that's also why I'm considering to wait a little longer. I buddy of mine just made the switch a couple of weeks ago to the $1999 MBP and could be happier....althought I'm sure he's not happy about yesterdat's update. I'll probably watch the rumor mill the next couple of weeks and see what happens. Either way, I'm waiting for the tax free weekend in three and half weeks.
