I can log into i-tunes with my i-tunes id and password but when i attempt to purchase a movie on apple tv i get the message "unable to sign in-the apple id you entered couldn't be found or your password was incorrect" Not AOl e-mail address related. Resetting/Rebooting and changing account state setting not effective.
Four days ago apple tech indicates: Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.
So far no further info. Anybody with similar experience/solution?
After trying all other solutions 3 times (de-authorizing/authorizing, restoring ATV to factory settings, recreating my iTunes library, etc.) while spending 2 hours on the phone with Apple Support, the solution that worked for me was turning off WPA2 Personal wireless security on my AXBS, restarting my Apple TV and re-joining the wireless network (temporarily without security). I was then able to play all purchased content, both synced and streaming. I then re-enabled WP2 security on the AXBS and was still able to play the content (and view YouTube content as well).
Sounds like you still have some homework to do to isolate whether it's a connectivity, hardware or iTunes account issue? The first thing to try would be to turn off your Mac's firewall and see if that solves your problem. A second thing would be to have the ATV access the Internet in another way. Is the reason you're haven't connected the ATV directly to your router (router doesn't have wireless capabilities and is too far away)? If you have a cable or DSL modem, would it be possible to move the modem and router so that it's physically closer to your Apple TV? Then you could plug the ATV directly into the router via Ethernet.
Endpoint filtering is only a feature on certain brands of Draft-N routers (TrendNet, D-Link and SMC). You access it by logging into your router and looking for options related to its NAT firewall. For wireless-G routers without this feature, you might want try playing with the firewall settings such as putting the ATV on a DMZ (demilitarized zone) connection. You don't want to run your ATV permanently like this, but you could run it this way for a few minutes while you try to sign into your iTunes account. For me, I tried the other suggestions (i.e., resetting the ATV, deauthorizing/reauthorizing iTunes, and turning off and on WPA encryption). Turning off endpoint filtering finally worked. Others have suggested bypassing the router and connecting directly to their cable modem. On a DSL connection requiring PPPoE authorization, that's just not possible.
I have spent the better part of 2 days on this. Resetting, resyncing, deauthorizing, removing wpa2 etc.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? These are the symptoms:
Can not download or rent from ATV.
Can not play any of my content previously purchased. (Videos, movies, or songs)
Network connection is good and trailers work fine.
Airport Extreme base station extended via 2 express stations working fine.
I have had a similar problem, and i think I'll be able to help you. I bought my appletv a couple of weeks ago and spent many days after installation getting it to work. Nothing that was suggested in this discussion thread worked for me. I deauthorized/authorized/reset/unplugged, changed settings on wifi and wired internet connection security and passwords... nothing. I finally got it to work when i triggered two ports on my computer (and on the wifi router setup). Follow the instructions on the link below and hopefully it will work for you too.
"Make sure UDP port 5353 (Bonjour) is open on your firewall. If you use Windows Firewall, follow the steps here. Otherwise, if you use other firewall software or hardware, check the software documentation on how to open UDP port 5353."
Believe it or not this was on apple web site, although very hard to find.
Now i am going to solve my next issue... how to stop automatic transfer of content from computer to appletv and how to transfer appletv content to computer. Any suggestions?
Have you tried the suggestions for the AEBS setup? Here are two responses that I think will help you...
"You would need to configure the AEBS to operate in an 802.11b/g compatible mode since many of the devices you list are 802.11g and don't have 802.11n."
and the other one just below this one on the same thread. Follow this link:
I bought my iMac and the apple TV on Thursday and set up was apple like - great except this very same issue. I have a Comcast account - no AOL - and can't get signed in via the iTV to purchase content - I did several resets etc - didn't work.
I did even create a new iTune account and it did not work either. I can only suspect a hardware issue of the box or a compatibility issue with my broad band provider.
Sorry to say that - but I am glad that I am not alone with the problem - it must be a fairly trivial issue if it is identified?
Please keep the information comming - many thanks Ingo
Thank you jflnyc!!!!
After 3 days of trail and error with the apple support line - you did solve the issue for me - many thanks
I went into the AXBS - changed the security setting to none - did a ATV hardware restart "factory resetting" and everything works perfect!
Again - Many Thanks! ingoch

the AEBS is already in the b/g supported mode and bridge mode
with the express stations extending the network to the apple tv so not sure wht i can do about the second thread
Anyway, still cant figure out how to open the port you suggested earlier on the router. that would potentially explain why i cant login to a yahoo games room still
