I can log into i-tunes with my i-tunes id and password but when i attempt to purchase a movie on apple tv i get the message "unable to sign in-the apple id you entered couldn't be found or your password was incorrect" Not AOl e-mail address related. Resetting/Rebooting and changing account state setting not effective.
Four days ago apple tech indicates: Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.
So far no further info. Anybody with similar experience/solution?
Same problem. I have an iTunes (non-AOL) account and new ATV 2.0. I could log on to my iTunes account (Apple Store) from my Mac no problem but couldn't log on via ATV. I was also unable to log on to YouTube from my ATV.
My ISP is Verizon FiOS.
Solution for me was to go into the FiOS router and create a port forwarding rule to permit all TCP ports to access the ATV. This works. I can now log on to iTunes and YouTube, rent movies, etc.
I don't want to leave it wide open like this (access to all ports) but at least it's working. When I get a moment, i'll try and figure out what ports it's accessing and amend the port forwarding rule to permit just those ports. But for now, it's working fine...
I have the FIOS router in the attic which is then connected to an airport extreme base station in the house via ethernet cable. I get better wireless performance with this set up vs just using the FIOS router.
I tried connecting ATV via ethernet directly to the FIOS router, got the internet connection no problem, but unfortunately got the same "iTunes ID could not be found or incorrect password entered". I will try your TCP port suggestion.
Is your ATV connected to the FIOS router via ethernet or wireless?
+"I +called support. Here's what you do: 1. unplug the ATV and leave it alone for a few minutes, 2. go to your "iTunes" computer and de-authorize your computer from the "store" menu...and leave it alone for a few, 3. re-authorize your computer from the "store" menu, 4. plug in your ATV and make sure the settings are correct in the "iTunes Store" section of the settings menu. 5. Try your purchase again!!! "+
Thank You, I followed those steps to the letter and it worked!
The answer to this problem is so simple that most of us will be wondering why we overlooked it. If you change your password or apple ID that is attached to your iTunes account Apple TV will not allow you to order movies. You have to go back into the iTunes store from one of your authorized computers and rent or buy a movie from there. iTunes will then give you the same warning that ATV was showing and then it forces you through the Account verification process by taking you to your account information page. Just review the information for accuracy and then select done. It will say that your new account has been created and then you can proceed to order movies directly from the ATV menu.
Don't expect Apple to change this. This is an extra layer of security to keep your account safe. Annoying, but necessary. If this does not fix your iTunes issue then referring to any one of the hardware issues above may fix this problem.
Try logging off all Itunes on all computers you may have and try the password. It appears the ATV does not like other computers logged on to Itunes/Stores at the same time. I solved my problem with this. Hope this will help you
Bye
HI, I'm running into this same aggravating problem. I've tried the de-auth/re-auth trick, restoring settings, changing location away from US and back, signing out/in to iTunes. My router is a Time Capsule. Are you saying if I change security to WEP, that will fix this? Any other ideas? Thanks.
One thing I have noticed is that this problem with the password is not just limited to Apple TV.
I could not log in on my Iphone or create an account on this forum. The only workaround I have found is resetting your password (I used the same password both times). That allowed me to update my apps on my Iphone, rent movies on Apple TV, and create this account. The problem is I had to do it yesterday, and today, it also does not explain why my five year old Itunes account and password has to be reset in the first place. I did not have to de-authorize my account or anything except reset my password with the same one and it worked instantly. This is obviously a problem on Apple's end with several different workarounds. I hope they get it fixed soon, so we will not be inconvenienced any longer.
