keyboard not recording on GB

i got a USB cable, and hooked my Casio Privia keyboard up to my new iMac computer .... but the computer is not recording any sound from the USB/keyboard -- it is only recording sound from the microphone in the iMac, which records all the background noise, which i don't want. how can i get this USB cable to import sound?

i called the apple store, and the mac genius told me to download this driver: Casio USB MIDI Driver 10.4.dmg.zip. i downloaded it, and followed the instructions in "Read me." (it said to put the file in my library/audio/midi file). but whenever i click on the download/driver to install it, my computer says it can't read the file.

BTW... i have read everything i can find on GB and nothing specifically tells me how to get this USB cable to import sound from my Casio keyboard. thanks.

luuk.cin,

we could not get our casio to import into GB at first too, but we kept trying, and eventually we got it to work.

we set the inputs/outputs at "system setting". we put the track input as "software instrument." we used a USB cable (and not the midi plugs in the back of the casio). last, we downloaded this driver from the internet. have you done these 3 things?

Actually, the driver you're linking is deprecated, meaning a newer version exists. Here's the updated link:

The instructions to install it are the same as the old one and are located on the home page of the driver's site:

This driver is not provided by Casio, I'm the one who wrote it. Needless to say, it doesn't come with any warranties, but many people had success with it. When it's correctly installed, your keyboard will act as a MIDI device. As others have pointed out, this won't send any actual audio signal through the cable, but you will be able to record your performance with GB and select different sounds from the provided software instruments, as you seem to have managed.
