Cannot sync Mail: iPhone cancelled sync

The other day I was syncing my iPhone, and for the first time ever, this error came up:

I did not cancel the sync or even touch my iPhone while I was syncing it. Any ideas or solutions?

You are correct, but from the initial post it wasn't obvious. I've seen several solutions that work for hacked phones, and also a solution (further down this thread) that fixes it for unhacked phones (basically a restore as a new phone).

Yes I did the same thing as fireforeffect along time ago and my iPhone has been fixed for a long time, but I have been so busy I haven't had time to go on Discussions for a while. So anyways I did a true factory resotre without restoring the back-up, BUT MAKE SURE TO RECORD ALL OF YOUR PREFERENCES BEFORE YOU DO THIS (i.e. weather cities, stocks, photos, etc...). And now Mail works fine! This solution also fixed [the problems where mail kept crashing|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6779897#6779897]. Check out my posts at that thread.

I did all of this with my ipod touch, but still, I have that mail problem as well. I cannot open my mail app anymore. Any other solution?

Try untindtalling then reinstalling iTunes. Then put your iPod Touch in recovery mode (press and hold the home and sleep/wake button, I am not sure for the Touch but this is how you do it for the iPhone, until the screen shows the USB connecting to iTunes). Plug it in to your computer, a message like +iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode, it must be restored before it can work again. Restore this iPod?+ Click yes, and once it has restored DO NOT SYNC ANYTHING AND DO NOT BACK UP YOUR PREVIOUS DATA. Then see if your mail app works. If it doesn't then great! sync your music and other data, but still don;t restore your back up. If it doesn't, maybe it's time to visit the Apple store?

Problem fixed : I put the setuid bit on /System/Library/PreferenceBundles/MobileMailSettings.bundle/MobileMailSettings

It requires a jailbroken device, and either ssh access or a local terminal, and entering the command :

chmod u+s /System/Library/PreferenceBundles/MobileMailSettings.bundle/MobileMailSettings

Hey guys, I ran into this as well. Here's what I did.

Delete all your current bookmarks on phone.
Resync

Problem solved 🙂
