ADD CALL - MERGE CALL - 3 WAY CALLING FEATURE: How does it work?

I'm on o2 and It's never worked for me, when I try it, it only switches from one caller to another, putting the other caller on hold.

I am from the US and actually experienced this, not with my iphone, but a friend's at work...mine works just fine - she told me that her 3 way calling didnt work (I of course thought she was just being a girl - j/k) but after showing her how mine worked, I tried hers and it did exactly what is being described in this forum...hence how I got here...hopefully someone stumbles upon an answer.

So it's not just a problem in the UK with O2... obviously it is also a problem here in the US and I am really not sure that it is a carrier issue or rather a software glitch possibly. If I figure out anything more beyond what is posted here, I'll update you.

Thanks

SO, Indeed Im glad to hear Im not the only one. However unlike a few of you I do need this feature as I often need to talk to a bunch of people.

I took the phone into an O2 store today (as advised by the O2 tech support) and they were worse than useless. They say that I need to take the phone to Apple as it must be faulty. But surely this is not a hardware problem...? The option to merge is available and it tries but fails. I sure apple will tell me its an O2 carrier problem.

Has anyone successfully actually seen this working on an iPhone in the UK? I find it a little suspicious then only person I know to have done it was on the end of an O2 tech support...!!

It still doesn't work for me!

And considering we all are paying a high premium rate tariff JUST for being able to use the iPhone, companies providing the product and services must make sure that they are serving us 100% at all times.

If they can't then we should have the right to demand a certain percentage of refund or a discount off our line rental untill all fuctions and services as promised are fully working.

Ok, I've been on the phone to Apple Customer Service and the the woman said to access the Merge fuction you have to dial 2255 from your o2 iPhone and follow the instructions to register :S

But it don't seem like a straight forward fuction as the 2255 instructions tells you that you have to set up a username and password and set a time with other people who you wanna have a conference with and then they connect and enter the username password or a special code in-order have 3way conversation :S

I've not tried - so if anyone wants to try and test it and report back thier experience that will be great - Thanks.

I used to get this. Called O2 today and the guy on the phone said it was something they had forgotten to switch on when they updated all the tariffs recently. He said he'd get it 'appropriated' for me (switched on, I think he meant) within 24 hours.

An hour later and it works.

o2 has the most illiterate customer service staff I have come accross, no 2 people ever say the same thing, they all say something different and incorrect each time.

Everytime I've had to call them, I end up telling them do this, do that, it shouldn't be like this, it should be like that. I DON'T WORK FOR O2, THEY DON'T PAY ME, and the people who work for o2 don't know anything, yet they get paid for thier dumbess :@

@Glenn Carey, same with me.

I feel everyones frustration, after 1 week of battling with O2 reps i've finally got it fixed.

*So here's my frustrating and very long winded story with the incompetent O2 workers:*

The 1st time i called O2 iPhone Support, he told me to turn off 'Call Waiting' and that it would fix the problem, it didn't.

Called the 2nd time and spoke to someone else, she told me it was most likely a handset fault, and to go into an O2 store for them to look at my phone.

So went into an O2 store today, none of the workers even knew what the term 'Call Merging' was, the store assistant even had to ask me 'what was it called again?!'. He called O2 Technical Support, then told me i had to call 2244 'O2 Group Chat Information Line' which would sort my problem???

That was complete poo, cuz I then got told on 2244 that i had called the wrong number as I have an iPhone, that i needed to ring O2 iPhone Support which is what i did in the very beginning!!

So i called O2 iPhone Support and this time I talk to someone I mustn't have spoken to before, they do some investigation into my account and ring some other departments, and figure out that because my account is on the NEW TARIFF (600 mins + 500 txts) conference calling had not been activated on it yet- and this may be the same with other people's iPhone accounts. So he put in a request for conference calling to be reactivated on my account, and within an hour the feature was working. This guy knew what he was doing clearly, unlike the other reps

*Basically, I blame O2 reps incompetents on their use of knowledge based systems and how they are trained to go about solving things, very frustrating, where they only know how to troubleshoot using a step-by-step guide and procedures, and not to think outside of the box! If they did think about the problem more logically, a rep earlier on in my case may have brought up the possibility of the 'new tariffs' being the issue (that had recently been implemented) and needing conference calling on the new tariffs to be reactivated.*

*GOOD NEWS: SUCCESSFUL FUNCTIONALITY OF THE CALL MERGE FEATURE AT LAST!!*

*I rang up o2 ONCE AGAIN but this time demanded to speak to a team manager, so I was instantly passed over to a team manager without having to waste time with the silly customer service reps.*

*I explained the problem of not being able to merge calls and the team manager said that she will call me back asap with a fix of this situation after she has spoken to the tech team + she said for all the trouble and poor customer service I have received she will compensate me!*

*So within an hour later, she called me back telling me that the call merge feature is active on my account now and all I need to do is reboot my phone, which I did and also tested the merge function and guess what? IT WORKS!!! As for compensation she gave me one months line rental FREE so that's a saving of £35 :)*

*So the bottom line if you want something done, speak to a Team Manager at o2!!!*
