I'm sick of these overload messages! Is there ANY fix in sight? (Part 2)

I have 4 tracks going (which is nothing), my cpu meter is barely moving, and I RARELY got this message in Logic 7.
I've trashed my preferences, and read this forum over and over and tried everything I can, and I cannot get this problem to go away.

Is there ANYTHING that can be done and will Apple fix this??"

That's a lot of Macs requiring technical assistance.

Most people I've seen who don't have this problem are running a PowerPC G4 or G5. 90% of the time it is that, and then the System Overload seems to be justified (90+ tracks / heavy plugin case). It does the job it is designed to do.

PS Someone said turning off Spotlight is good. I thought so too until I noticed that EXS24 couldn't find any of the SDIR impulse responses. Turning it back on (indexing of the System drive too) fixed that.

Right, I mentioned that, what I do is turn it on when installing programs/OS, let it write it's indexes then turn it off, once the indexes are written they can be read by applications that need them. ie: Space Designer...etc.

I certainly agree with you, the problem is not RAM, drive speed or faster systems. From reading this and other boards it seems the problem is more prevalent on the Intel macbook/macbook pro systems, especially the more recent models. I know someone who purchased one of the early macbooks and was able to run large projects from the internal drive. (Logic 7.2 that is)

I'm running a G5 and don't have these problems. After through testing my only comments are pointed at the slower speed of L8 and the fact that it uses more CPU under both Tiger 4.11 and Leopard 5.2, Also, I show CPU spiking under Leopard 5.2 using only Logic plugins... same projects under Tiger run flawlessly. So far, Leopard offers me nothing, I have my own backup system.

I was having this problem too, although I realized it was only when my *File -> Project Settings -> Audio was set to 88,200 sample rate*. Or when I open something else while logic is running it spikes causing the overload message. The demo's that come with Logic 8, Shiny Toy Guns etc are all 44,100 and they run smooth (25% CPU) with 70 tracks (Girls Le Disco 5.1) as opposed to 80% on my 88,100 sample rate project of 4 tracks!! Double click your System Performance bar in the transport panel to monitor the difference between 44,100 and 88,200. It's still at 24bit recording but the sample rate literally sends the CPU through the roof.
Is anyone else experiencing it as I am or are you experiencing it with 44.100 too?
It has happenend with 44.100 too, but only when I was pushing the machine to max with all apps open and running (was testing a fan issue) Otherwise it doesnt happen.

Yes I would guess if you doubled the disk throughput of all of your tracks and doubled the computing power needed to process every plug-in on a maxed out project, you could expect to see you system CACK on it. But when the error gets thrown with a single track or a four track session on a modern computer it makes you think that the dialog is either not correct or there is a fundamental problem with the system.

I have a brand new internal drive freshly formatted with a clean install of OS 10.4.11. I then installed Final Cut pro studio 5 without Sound Track Pro and updated it to the last release Then I installed Logic Studio Including the newer Sound track Pro. There is no other software on my computer and I get these errors. I am going to puch they system and see what it can do.

The thing that bothers me is that they occur at seemingly random places in any project.

I use logic pro 8 and Ableton live 7 rewire... After I moved from my old macbook pro 2.16 intel duo to 2.6 intel 2 duo, I started having problem with overload messages on my new computer(frustrating), I first thought that 10.5.2 not comparable with Logic pro 8 or ableton Live, so I did my research I found out that the auto/speed that the new intel processors 2 duos not be able to put up with the speed with some softwares like Logic po 8 and ableton live etc... to make the tory short.
I found this swedish website www.coolbook.se I downloaded coolbook 2.8 software, installed it and used the default setting, restart the computer and like a miracle my computer worked twice the power (witch what supposed to do) with both Logic pro 8 and ableton live rewire with plenty of more tracks( The CPU usage dropped from 45% to 20% on ableton). It worked for me I am very happy, I hope it will work for you too. I am sure in the near future the new updates with both software will change all that, but currently this is the best thing that I see it will work for me as of now. Good luck 🙂

Hi Guys, new Logic version is on the fly, i see a preview, lots of psicodelic improuvements like regions multidivided and floating on the screen mactching at the rythm of the song, i hope they make an effort on to manage better the power of a 8 core processors or any other systems, and less stupid and distracting visual effect that we don´t need, anyway Logic 8 is very great software and a very powerfull creation tool, Take a look at macprovideo.com and learn from they tip and trick´s subscrption or any of they other tutorial videos, it is cheap and very usefull, about overloads not only Logic need fix also third party plug´ins and audio interface drivers need to be fixed, the overloads are the sum of a not at all compatibility of our studio entourage. Excuse my inglish it is a little bit limited, i´m from Spain.
Regards to all and good luck.

I have something more to said, if you are a pro you should know that if your system work you don´t need to upgrade/update nothing, but if you don´t like me, i think it is much better to go on Logic pro 8 and Leopard Than Logic 7 and Tiger, i still have Logic 7 installed on my system and sometimes i use it to do test and yes Logic 7 seems to manage better the power of my machine but the worflow ***** compared to Logic 8, Logic 8 is miles away improuved from Logic 7 the enviroement in Logic 8 is a real beast compared to Logic 7 and the mult itake recording and mult itake folders are amazing in Logic 8, i stil prefer some overloads and get profit from the great advantage of Logic 8 over Logic 7, beacause i´m not a pro. and surelly soon the things gonna be fixed. Now all is new. (8 core mac intel leaopard ect...)
