unable to access iTunes store

I recently installed the latest version, and now I can not access the iTunes store.
No error, just "accessing iTunes store".
it seems as though iTunes can not access the internet at all. Radio , software update, etc. No error for any of these.
I can get anywhere on the internet from the same computer. I can also access the iTunes store from a PC in on the same network.

any help is appreciated

mac book, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Mine stopped previewing easily a week ago, it would buffer forever on most, but once in awhile a preview song would come through. Then earlier this week the iTunes Store completely stopped working at all, saying to check my network connection (although the computer is obviously connected since I'm on it right now posting this). I also discovered it can't update my iphone firmware either, so basically iTunes doesn't talk to the internet at all anymore. So I guess I'm another person with the problem, and seems Apple doesn't help anyone with this since it's not everybody, I am stumped as to what suddenly changed.

OK it is 04:30 and I can not connect.
Now I don't even get the iTunes trying, it just says the same error that the previous post mentions.
"iTunes can not connect to the iTunes store"
"make sure your network connection is active and try again"
This error is new since the 10.5.3 upgrade.

This is a disgrace! obviously it it not a 1 time error!

I have recently started having problems with the iTunes store and have had no luck with Apple support or the discussion boards. But, I was fooling around and have noticed that if I click on "podcasts" on the left side of iTunes, then click "podcast directory" in the lower right side I can access the store. Now this has been hit or miss as far as navigating. If I click the home button it stalls, but if I click the back button I can get to where I came from search stalls and some other stuff doesn't work. Hopefully Apple sees this and can fix. I originally had an error code -3 then -50 and then -4.

Hope this helps someone.

I think I'm having the same problems with an iBook G4, (Although my iMac G5 and PC laptop both connect fine) but I get the -50 error on the iBook.

I can get in to itunes through the podcast route you suggest. I guess we can't be the only people having these problems.

All my machines are up to date (10.5.3 on the macs, latest windows patches applied to the pc (xp), latest itunes 7.6.2) and connecting through the same wireless router to the internet.

Have been through firewall, keychain and parental settings on the ibook to get it working properly to no avail.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received!

OK , so since I started this thread, I have tried numerous things , all have failed.
Until this last try. I am not saying it will work everyone, just that it worked for me. But it really is not a fix, just bandaid.
I use a PAC file via proxy settings for work. I have the location profile set to"automatic". Every application works fine except for iTunes. Apparently it is not smart enough to understand the "automatic" settings.
I created a new location, with no proxy settings at all.
It works, so when ever I need to go to iTunes I have to switch locations and re connect to the network. So this is a manual fix / switch.
I hope apple realizes this and creates the permanent fix.
