Problems with Edge

The Edge icon appears on my phone but when I try to access the internet or mail, it tells me that it could not activate edge. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix?

I have had my Iphone since October and have never had any Edge network issues. In fact I was impressed on how reliable data connections were. That was until about 2 weeks ago. Right now data updates and web browsing are a hit and miss thing here in NW Arkansas. I doubt its a phone issue since I know of 2 other Iphone users having the same problems. I too have called AT&T, reset etc my phone but nothing has helped. Its getting very annoying. Making phone calls have not had the same problem just data.

I noticed the same problem starting Saturday. Data, safari, email, and weather and stock widgets are hit and miss, all call features work fine. I always have good signal and the edge icon is always present but it seems to cycle in about 15 minute intervals. Other coworkers have had voicemail problems. It's nice having a $500 paper weight isn't it.

At&t checked towers in my area and said all is fine but I think they have problems they haven't discovered yet. They also de-activated and re-activated my data service without success. I have done everything possible to the phone except a complete system restore. I've powered off, restarted, toggled airplane mode, reset network connection and all failed. AT&T admits no guilt, haven't called Apple, but it doesn't sound like it's the phone.

I am in Cabot, AR.

My fiance is having exact same problem with her iPhone. My iPhone works connects to the Edge with no problems while her iPhone keeps telling cannot connect... It's either iPhone's hardware failure (it shouldn't be software, otherwise I would have exact same error) or AT&T database has issues and it won't give access to some iPhone users...

I have spoken to Apple about this. They will help you trouble shoot the phone and finally restore it if all else fails. If the problem continues they will repair/replace the phone. You will need to go to an Apple store (nearest for me is about 100 miles away) or send in your phone. The idea behind that is that if a second phone has the same issues it will prove to be an Edge problem. Either way, without AT@T trying to help the hassle of getting another phone may not even fix the problem.

I experienced EDGE connection problems yesterday morning, but the rest of the day I was connected via wi-fi so I forgot about it. There can be several reasons for temporary connection problems which are usually short lived.

This morning, the same occurred. My iPhone had the E indicating a connection, but no internet access. I toggled Airplane mode off and on which didn't help.

I called at&t technical support to report this, and there was no notification of maintenance, etc. in my area. I had an appointment at 10, so an at&t technical support rep called me back at 11 to check if I was experiencing the same problem. At that time, I was not experiencing any connection problems.

Within an hour or so after having no connection problems, I started experiencing the same again. My connection was switching between having an EDGE connection and GPRS - with a blank square instead of having an E, but no internet connection.

I called at&t technical support again and they informed me that some maintenance was scheduled in my area that began this morning, with the maintenance scheduled to be completed by 2:30.

I met the same problem these days,I lost connection for a while and then got connected again, either using Wifi or Edge. Even if I get connected, the internet is really slow.
Also sometimes it's hard to send or receive mails. All this annoys me so much!
I saw some people posted that trying airmode or reboot or reset network doesn't help, so I don't know which way to resolve?? :< Did anyone succeed in any of these ways?

There is definitely a problem with the EDGE data network here in the Dallas area. It started a few weeks ago; I characterize it as intermittent access with short outages on some occasions (several minutes) and longer outages on others (several hours). One night it was so bad that my battery was basically drained from the phone trying to access/update my email so much. The biggest issue for me is that I need timely email and voicemail (through visual voicemail) access and erratic data service just isn't going to work! Hopefully this is a short-term problem.

My iPhone worked perfectly but yesterday it wouldn't sync with my Mac: it didn't add new entries in my Address Book (I have 1300 and cannot do this by hand!). Eventually I started afresh ... I managed the sync after resetting sync history (all entries on Mac now on iPhone, but new ones on iPhone are now gone)

Furthermore, I set everything re Mail and Safari like it was (I wrote it down the first time I did this and couldn't get it going) but no go: "Could not activate EDGE: You are not subscribed to EDGE". We do not have EDGE - I did set Network to Data Roaming (like the first time) but doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

Hi. I used to surf web for a couple of months and then my iPhone started to inform me that it can't find the server. I spend a lot of time to solve this problem...
Finally I've found the problem:
some stpd IT in my cell company locked port on Firewall that let's iPhone to internet...
Maybe smbdy has problem like this... I mean human factor, maybe sombdy locked the internet port!!!
