Elgato EyeTV for DTT

Anyone tried EyeTV for DTT ? Mine arrived yesterday. Not very good at all.I`ll be sending it back.
I live in an area of Bristol UK with good reception (from both rooftop and portable antenna) However using Elgato EyeTV for DTT is really not happening.

Wondered if anyone has it working as it should?

I have to say, it's tosh about having to change your Ariel. One on my roof has been there since 1978, DTT is as bright as a button.

Using the Elgato EyeTV with the Mac is just so handy, I watch the news and do my thing, the kids have the TV for about 2 hours after school.

The Ariel provided is OK but it will only get the strongest signals, BBC1 etc. ITV and Channel 5 are too weak in my neck of the woods for this little one. Hooked it up to the outside Ariel and Bob's your Uncle.

I've been having problems with my new EyeTV for DTT on my G5 iMac too... the picture is very choppy and missing frames, which led me to think it was a problem with the signal but after I've it on a Powerbook G4 and the picture is perfect. A clean reinstall of OS X made no difference, so it obviously a problem with the box/mac rather then the signal.

I've raised a support request with Elgato, but if anyone has any ideas what might be causing it in the meantime?

Aviaor,

I've experiencd the same problems using the DTT with my G5 iMac. I always thought the choppy signal was due to poor reception. However, today I unplugged the DTT from the rear of my iMac and put it into my Belkin USB 7-port 2.0 hub instead (which of course is plugged into a separate USB socket in the rear of the iMac.) On doing this all the channels were immediately clear, with no chop or interference!

I would have thought the throughput would be better going directly into the Mac rather than via the hub but it appears to be the opposite case. Maybe its a power issue (my hub is powered.) Anyway, I recommend you try this.

I have just sent my T2 DTT back, I have a Pace freeview box which works very well, geat picture and no image breakup when connected to the TV. But the DTT seems to require 100% signal quality to work without the images breaking up and I have a brand new wide band roof ariel. I am waiting for the eye 410 to arrive to see if this is any better. The Elgato software is very good and I have no complaints

Hi,

just want to add my experiences. Usually reception is good for me. But after the G5 has gone to sleep, the box cannot find channels afterwards. After disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable it is fine again. Highly annoying. Anyone else with this symptom?

I have the similar problem. When start EyeTV for first time after i switch my imac G5 on(or restart it), i get NO SIGNAL message on black screen.I have to unplug the USB cable and then plug it in again in order to get a picture. After this procedure i can close and reopen EyeTV app as i wish and it works fine. It's annoying because when you want to record some program there either has to be someone to do the "cable trick" or you have to leave the computer on when you leaving the house.I'm using EyeTV v.1.8.4 but i tried v.2 as well with same result.any suggestions?

I've had it for some time now (got it in time for the cricket) and it seems to perform in exactly the same way as my old OnDigital Nokia box: needs a very strong signal, amped up here; all ITV broadcast signals are liable to dodgy reception and break-up from time to time; it gets moody and wants a reset from time to time for no reason (Nokia, press reset, EyeTV take out, put in USB).

Otherwise, it's near-perfect, except that you'll get a disk-full of recorded programmes to "watch later" unless you're careful.

I experienced a problem of 'No Signal' at Start Up which affected recording and meant that I had to reboot the T2 by unplugging. After exploring numerous solutions through Elgato's support team I eventually decided to purchase a 4-port Belkin powered USB hub. It had a dramatic effect. Picture quality improved and I received a signal on Start Up. I've not had to reboot since running the T2 through the hub and I would certainly recommend exploring this route.
