Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.

I attempted to install this update on my Mac Book Pro, and it was a no-go.

I tried software update (4 times), downloaded the installer through software udpate and ran it(2 times), and then ran the stand-alone installer (4 times).

Each time the install failed.

I set-up Windows Installer logging, so if anyone at Apple wants to see the log, I'd be happy to send it your way.

Thanks,

Hi The Hatter,

inside the BCUpdateVista64.exe are two files:

BCLocUpdateEnable64.exe with a size of 1.197 KB
BCUpdateVista64.msp with a size of 251.723 KB

I have tried opening the .msp file (with an Unpacker named 7Zip) and got a lot of BootCampHelp.chm (Windows help files) in different languages and corresponding .lproj_Resources.dll files plus different language.dll files.

No sign of the Drivers that are included.
.msp files are 'Windows Installer Patch' files with obviously some means to hide parts of their content.

It may not be much help, but I have successfully updated 2.0 to 2.1 with Vista running on MB Pro and iMac. Before installation I read to 2.1 notes, and decided to go Vista SP1 first and this installation went aok. Next, I headed to the Apple Software Updater for 2.1 and it installed fine on my 2.5 GHz Penryn MB Pro (slower internet is though a problem for my iMac Core2 Extreme 2.8 GHz, I don't know why pre-patch except I think drivers). Patch completed and seems to have updated drivers, had to reset screen resolution to one I prefer for MB Pro, though not imac {which I had with Radeon Catalyst drivers). I can't complain, but would suggest reading patch note, and reporting exact system info where failures are encountered. I note my Imac seems faster with regards internet post patching (SP1 and 2.1)

I am not usually the exception to these problems, but Boot camp 2.1 installed fine in Vista Business SP1 (32 bit) vis Apple Software Update on my MacBook Pro (1,1).

I know how frustrating it is when these things don't work, and I only report this by way of information. The update is obviously flawed in some way to have so many install failures, but it is not completely broken.

I had the same problem, and I believe I may have found a work-around. My theory is that the problem occurs on PCs with a non-english keyboard. I have a Swedish keyboard. Bootcamp seems to know about this, since it displayed its UI in Swedish (even though I run an English evrsion of XP). My guess is that some file paths or names differ in this case. So I uninstalled the Bootcamp software (not the drivers, just the Bootcamp app itself), set my keyboard to English North America under Regional Settings, re-installed BootCamp from the Leopard install disk, then ran he Apple software updater. This time the updater worked OK, and installed the 2.1 update. I then switched back to my localized keyboard setting. Hope this helps.

Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.
