Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.

I attempted to install this update on my Mac Book Pro, and it was a no-go.

I tried software update (4 times), downloaded the installer through software udpate and ran it(2 times), and then ran the stand-alone installer (4 times).

Each time the install failed.

I set-up Windows Installer logging, so if anyone at Apple wants to see the log, I'd be happy to send it your way.

Thanks,

Thanks Ole Yek - I have Vista 32 Business.
I open the Control panel "Regional and language Options"
Formats; Danish (Denmark)
Location: Denmark
Keyboards and Languages: Is empty. On top is an option to "Change keyboards..."
If I do so - a window "Text Services and Input Languges opens.
Default Input languages: Danish (Denmark) - Danish
Under that a window with "Installed Services" - with:
DA Danish (Denmark)
Keyboard:
Dansk (Apple)
Danish
US

and:
EN English (United States)
Keyboard
US

So I running my OSX in english - but with a danish keyboard and layout.
I was the told by "ihhansen" - that I should convert my language by changing it or download it - but I'm not sure what I should change and what i should download with the settings that I have - to be able to update BC 2.1.

I tried to change from Danish to English (US) - but I'm not sure that that was right understood by me - and it didn't help on the install either.

Flash

This is the advice i'm trying to solve:

I might have a solution to the problem!

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit, SP1).
As I live in Denmark the regional settings was set to Danish/Denmark but I did not download the Danish Language Pack. I was facing the same problems as descriped in this tread.

After downloading the Danish Language Pack and choosing that I was able to install BC 2.1 update !!

If you are running Vindows Vista (English) with regional settings/ keyboard layout set to your own language, try to change it back to english, alternative (as I did) if you have Windows Vista Ultimate download your language pack

On my MacBook Pro and MacBook the language pack/re-install trick didn't solve the problem. I still can't install BC 2.1. Anyway, I would be careful of forcing the BC 2.1 install since it is clear that something is wrong with it. I think its safest to wait for 2.1.x update, which will probably be released soon. In the mean while I think any one having problems with BC 2.1 update should turn off / check that you are not running automatic Windows updates so you won't be accidentally stumbling into service pack 3 before you managed to update your BC (BC needs to be updated before installing SP3).

EDIT: I'm using Windows XP with SP2 on both of my laptops

Did you remove and reinstall BC 2.0 from Leopard DVD ?
That was the last thing I did - before I ran the Apple Software update from XP - and finally it installed the 2.1 without problems.

Something is wrong with that 2.1 update pack, and maybe better to wait for 2.1... ?
XP SP3 will be out April 29th, so there's few days more to try this 2.1 or wait 2.1...

I uninstalled Boot Camp form my XP SP2 (MBP fall 2007) partition and reinstalled it from my Leopard disk. The reinstall went wrong as it was very, very slow and several of the drivers didn't intstall (fatal error). Now I cannot even start up in Boot Camp, as it does not 'see' my keybord or track pad and I cannot get pass the ctrl-alt-delete sequence. Fortunately I can still access the drive through VMWare Fusion.

Conclusion - be careful with uninstalling Boot Camp!

I have this problem too 10.4 macbook, with XP disk bootcamped using 1.4 beta.

Apple software update wouldn't install update or do manual update, so I uninstalled it.

Manually downloaded 2.1 BCUpdate.exe and when I try to run it, it shows up briefly in task manager then dissapears.

with SP3 out tomorrow and the invasiveness of windows auto updater this would seem like it's gonna be a big problem.

For now I've just disabled auto updates in XP until I can pull the machine out of service and take a proper look.

The answers are in this thread:

I had the same issue, BC2.1 running, asking for permission and then disappearing.
The solution is you first need the BC version between 2.0 and 2.1 as explained in above cited thread.
My Vista Ultra 64-bit now works fine.

I have clue about using it with Tiger. For that you are on your own.

I had the same problem as described in this thread.

You seem to have diagnosed the error correctly, as your solution worked for me as well!

Thank you for the tip, it has been very welcome.

How come Apple never considered that their customers might want to have other language settings than what their OS offered, I wonder?

You are welcome

There are 6700 languages on planet earth. No matter how many you choose, there will always be thousands wanting their language included.
What language do international airline pilots use?
When you actually read a computer program, what language is it usually written in?
It's all about choices, and not everyone will be satisfied. In business, one satisfies a large number, and leaves the rest for a 3rd party to work on.
