Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.

I attempted to install this update on my Mac Book Pro, and it was a no-go.

I tried software update (4 times), downloaded the installer through software udpate and ran it(2 times), and then ran the stand-alone installer (4 times).

Each time the install failed.

I set-up Windows Installer logging, so if anyone at Apple wants to see the log, I'd be happy to send it your way.

Thanks,

Just want to add a "me too" in the thread... trying to install BC2.1 on windows XP SP2 with no success. I have a MBP with a portuguese keyboard. Tried the language settings, but not removing bootcamp - I use windows daily at work (BC+Fusion), so I cannot take chances.

Hope Apple is on this and BC2.1.1 or something like it comes out soon.

I have confirmed that this is a language setting problem. If you are running Windows Vista with any language packs installed and the user desktop language is set to anything other than the system language, it either fails with with an error message or simply exits without warning, depending on which file you are trying to install from. It's a bug in the installer.

Doh! Software development is hard!

I have the same problem with WinXP Sp2 all patches. Looks as if people can install who have a more recent bootcamp-version than 2.00. Yet neither 2.02 nor 2.04 seem not to be availabe for download.
As to Apple: I also find it a shame that no official recognition of this problem is given within several days. 1000s of people are looking at the relevant threads in this forum.

One indicator that Apple knows something is fishy: some people do get the bootcamp-update through autoupdate and other don't. I don't think I've heard of a case yet, where bootcamp retrieved through autoupdate didn't install. For me it doesn't install and I do not get it offered.

Two things I tried without result (loosing many hours of wor): uninstall MacDrive and VMWare-Fusion.

So let me say: Come on, Apple, help your users - there are many with the same quite urgent problem. WinXP sp3 is around the corner.

As said above this is all you have to do:
The problem is localization.
Check the services-tab. There are three "Apple services" If the first one is in your local language then do the following:

Uninstall bootcamp using the DVD.
Go to Control panel and switch everyting to English in the "Regional settings tab".

Reboot.

Re-install bootcamp from DVD but check that the bootcamp installation is in english !

Reboot.

Install update.

Now you can switch back to your preferences in Regional settings.

You can add me to the list of "won't install". It has nothing to do with localization either, windows setting are US english. Apple software update (in vista ultimate sp1) downloaded and went through the process and made it to the restart button. When I clicked it, it went immediately to the blue screen of death. Windows recovered and seems to be fine however BootCamp 2.1 still shows up in software update so I guess it didn't take.

Still looking for an answer

Welcome to the Apple boards:
I wonder if BC2.1 has to be installed before SP1.
Did you "force" SP1, or did you get it as an automatic update.
If BC2.1 "took" then you will find its icon in the task bar.
My Vista Ult 64-bit now has 2 BC icons; one for 2.0 and one or 2.1 but it works fine.
I have not received notification about SP1, so I have not installed it.
So far it is working well.

I actually purchased Vista Ultimate W/sp1 so it was there when I installed Vista. BootCamp 2.0 and everything else is still working fine. I have no idea if it "took" but software update doesn't think it did.

I'd sure like to see some kind of resolution for this, I really don't want to start the windows installation process all over again...
