Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.

I attempted to install this update on my Mac Book Pro, and it was a no-go.

I tried software update (4 times), downloaded the installer through software udpate and ran it(2 times), and then ran the stand-alone installer (4 times).

Each time the install failed.

I set-up Windows Installer logging, so if anyone at Apple wants to see the log, I'd be happy to send it your way.

Thanks,

Hello,

I am one of the people that can't install BC 2.1 (tried everything described but nothing helps, keep getting the known errormessage). But i have another problem since i tried installing BC 2.1, namely that i can't uninstall BC 2.0 anymore!! If i click on delete (or alter) in the softwarewindow i get an errormessage saying: unrecoverable error at installation.

If (and i say if) Apple releases a fix or newer update will this then fix the above problem or not?? Cause i would be pretty scr*wed if i can't update the bootcamp (service) anymore.

+"Try reinstalling Apple setup.exe or BootCamp 2.0x.+

+In Vista "BootCamp" is there in the "Programs and Features" and that is how/where to uninstall (and sometimes you are offered the "repair install" when you try to install a program or service that is already present."+

Has there been much success uninstalling 2.0 first?

Another twist, Apple software update no longer thinks I need the 2.1 update but the "about bootcamp" still says 2.0

I just checked for updates and BC 2.1 is still there. Tried even installing it again with same results (didn't work). Is Apple paying any attention... There should be at least some sort of notification that the issue is noted.

They only pulled the 64-bit version of BC2.1 which did seem to have issues although there are workarounds that work. I have BC2.1 on this MBP for Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
I suspect that a new 64-bit BC2.1.x will become available in time.

attempting to go from boot camp 2.0 to 2.1 on windows xp sp2 on a MPB

installation encounters errors wether using software update or download from apple website.

Welcome to the Apple boards:
I gave up waiting for the Apple Software Update and downloaded BC2.1 XP 32-bit and installed it manually, violating my own rule to wait for it.
No problems at all. The first window gives the option to Repair/Update or Remove the BC drivers.
Naturally I chose Repair/Update. It took only a few minutes and a reboot. Everything is working fine, the touchpad is now like under Leopard with the 2-finger rightclick, etc. Sound, everything else OK.

Rant: why does microsoft require editing of the registry to enable installer debugging?

Why not ask this on a MS board? I really don't care. Just do it.

Good for you. However, not very helpful since I'll bet majority of users seeing this problem have already tried standalone installers as soon as the software update didn't work.

Anyway, has anyone found any other alternative of installing BC 2.1 then doing the language setting / pack or uninstall / re-install tricks? I've tried both of them but neither of them worked. I have also tried scraping the windows all together and starting with fresh XP (SP2) installation and BC 2.0. However, that didn't change a thing.

Hello All, i've solved this problem changing a registry key where Boot Camp store language codepage identification and setting to 1033 (english).

HKEY CLASSESROOT\Installer\Products\D5DD71889A642804C827D3CFA8799F7A\Language set it to 1033 (decimal) for english

The error is probably due to the fact that my Windows XP sp2 was set to italian during first Boot Camp installation.
Error was:
DEBUG: Error 2749: Transform 1040 invalid for package C:\WINDOWS\Installer\96467.msi. Expected product version == 2.0.1, found product version 2.1.0.
1: 2749 2: 1040 3: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\96467.msi 4: 2.0.1 5: 2.1.0
Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.
1040

Hope this help other ppl, bye
corrado
