Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.

I attempted to install this update on my Mac Book Pro, and it was a no-go.

I tried software update (4 times), downloaded the installer through software udpate and ran it(2 times), and then ran the stand-alone installer (4 times).

Each time the install failed.

I set-up Windows Installer logging, so if anyone at Apple wants to see the log, I'd be happy to send it your way.

Thanks,

I am happy for You. So could you take care of dummies like myself and describe step by step of what and when did You do to manage update ? I don't know at which moment registry have to be changed (I do not have a key like You described). I am still on BC 1.4, as I had a problems upgrading to 2.0 due to failure of drivers install for Remote, Touchpad and Apple Keyboard. But then BC on task bar was showing v 2.0. Form then I was trying to install BC 2.1 but no luck... So I restored my XP from image and I am on the beginning.
So please, help dummy to manage...

Thanx for quick reply. I have checked my registry and it shows 1033 as for language (just remember - I am still on BC 1.4). So at this moment I have nothing to change. I will try later at home to upgrade to 2.0 and then check registry. As mentioned before - so far 2.0 kept failing installing drivers for some components. But I will skip this and If my registry change to something different then 1033 durring BC 2.0 install I will change them as instructed and go for 2.1 Do I have to change my "Regional settings" to English ?

Here is the installer log from the last failure (MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006), BC 2.0 installation, changed Language to 1033, Installed ATI graphics driver update from http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/mac/bootcamp-xp.html, uninstalled InputRemapper):

It seems that the installer fails when it tries to find out something about Intel Graphics hardware, the funny thing is that the MacBook Pro does have an ATI Radeon X1600). Very strange...

I still think this could have something to do with the ATI graphics driver update which is "official", but I can not find a way to uninstall it...

Another small update:
After having uninstalled the ATI driver and InputRemapper, I finally managed to uninstall BC 2.0 using the Leopard DVD (this did not work before, but I don't know what the reason for this was).

I then switched to English language settings and reinstalled BC 2.0 through the Leopard DVD, all registry keys are now set "as expected" (Language 1033), but the DC 2.1 update still fails with the error I mentioned above.

I have followed every suggestion that has been made over the past 7 pages of ideas. I have reinstalled 2.0, I have verified that I have english as the registry value, I have uninstalled the NAV, and various combinations of the above. Nothing, I mean NOTHING (apple are you reading!!) will make this update load. (and yes I know I am using the xp os/partition)

And, from researching this problem only macfixit has seemingly picked up the investigation. But their info and a lot of previous posts warn of impending graphic issues and keyboard driver spasms.

APPLE - please repair this so that all of us can get the full advantage of SP3 for XP

This is not your usual "smooth" application

P.S. - Congratulations to all that had success

For those of you who have a VNC client installed (Such as Ultra VNC), I have found that the Winvnc video hook driver that is installed as part of that package WILL prevent the Bootcamp 2.1 update from installing... At least for Windows XP.

It may not be enough to just uninstall Ultra VNC, you have to go into Device Manager and delete the Winvnc video hook driver, so that all you have for video drivers is just the ATI, Intel or Nvidia driver listed in the Display Adapters category.

I've detailed everything in another thread:

I just checked for updates and BC 2.1 is still there. Tried even installing it again with same results (didn't work). Is Apple paying any attention... There should be at least some sort of notification that the issue is noted.

I found out that if you install BC 2.0 from a folder on the C: drive (Rather than from the Leopard DVD) that BC 2.1 will not show in software update if the original install folder was moved. If the original install was from a drive OTHER than C:, then it will show in software update, even if the DVD is not in the drive.

Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.
