Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.

I attempted to install this update on my Mac Book Pro, and it was a no-go.

I tried software update (4 times), downloaded the installer through software udpate and ran it(2 times), and then ran the stand-alone installer (4 times).

Each time the install failed.

I set-up Windows Installer logging, so if anyone at Apple wants to see the log, I'd be happy to send it your way.

Thanks,

Here too -

Updating Boot Camp 2.0 (from Leopard DVD) to BC 2.1 failed repeatedly from both software update and standalone installer. Then attempted to first uninstall 2.0 from the Leopard disc and then run the update, Boot Camp setup wouldn't start from the disc either...

I uninstalled RealVNC and everything went smoothly.

Apparently, *VNC software* (VNC mirror drivers) poses a problem for Boot Camp?

This was on a 15" Macbook Pro (Penryn) with WinXP Pro 32-bit SP3 on its own partition. Regional settings were already set to En US.

Hi,

Just to give a note about updating Boot Camp to version 2.1.

I had the same problems until I did the following, this actually worked also one of my college also.

In Windows start regedt32 and find following registry hive:

HKEY CLASSESROOT\Installer\Products\82654E0F812156845A61E8A84572A2CD
(note that you might have another serial after \Products\)

Make sure that language key is set:

"Language"=dword:00000409 (HEX)

If it isn't change it and reboot your Windows.

After rebooting just run Apple update again and it should ⚠ work just fine.

Like I said I tested this with 2 MBP and locales were set to Finnish....

Hope this is helping you, folks.

Hi there,

Given the importance of this update, I don't understand how so many people can be having a problem without Apple addressing it.

I have had the same problem as well, and afer trying everything on this thread haven't been able to fix it.

What could possibly be installing its own video driver on my system? I use DivX. Is that it? I'm on the beta of Live Mesh. Is that it?

Any thoughts on what else could be making this product not install correctly?

Thanks!
Robert.

Can't be DIVX, I use that as well. If you look in the device manager and expand the display devices, do you see more than one? (Should just be just a single Nvidia, ATI or Intel driver listed)

There are also the language issues covered above.

Beside that, there may be some other driver category that the installer only expects a single, or a specific set of drivers, and the installer goes haywire if it sees more. Like, say, multiple camera drivers or something like that.

Still, you are right... that is a pretty poorly tested updater not to take issues like that into account.

Hey there,

Thanks a lot for your help. After checking my video drivers, I saw there were two additional video drivers for the Microsoft Live Mesh tech beta I'm in. So I uninstalled Live Mesh, removed the video drivers, and the Boot Camp update installed fine. After that I installed SP3 and all is well.

Thanks again! Hopefully this problem doesn't happen to too many more people.

Robert.

That's what I was afraid of.

I keep the Leopard side of things up to date as well, but primarily run XP on my Mac Pro. On the Windows side, I have BlackMagic Design hardware and of course add'l video drivers for a 2nd monitor. I haven't tried dropping back to a generic video driver as it's a bit of an ordeal. Why would one suspect that to be an issue with a Boot Camp update and a .1 at that?

I guess my question is, is it worth the hassle for the moment? I've no pressing need to update to sp3 either that I can see.

Thanks,

Mark
