Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.

I attempted to install this update on my Mac Book Pro, and it was a no-go.

I tried software update (4 times), downloaded the installer through software udpate and ran it(2 times), and then ran the stand-alone installer (4 times).

Each time the install failed.

I set-up Windows Installer logging, so if anyone at Apple wants to see the log, I'd be happy to send it your way.

Thanks,

Apple (secretly?) posted a tech note on how to troubleshoot installing BC 2.1

"Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools > Download Only and try installing manually" may appear during installation.
"Failed to extract matching transform" messages may appear in the log when attempting to install.

Products Affected

Boot Camp, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista
In Windows, start a command prompt (cmd.exe, sometimes referred to as a command shell). Use Administrative rights if running Windows Vista.

Type one the following command lines in the command shell:

For Windows XP, type: msiexec /update <path to the .msp file>\BCUpdateXP.msp

For Windows Vista 32 bit, type: msiexec /update <path to the .msp file>\BCUpdateVista32.msp

For Windows Vista 64 bit, type: msiexec /update <path to the .msp file>\BCUpdateVista64.msp

Click Next

Accept the terms of the license agreement if you agree, then click Next

Click Repair/Update

Your Boot Camp drivers will be updated to version 2.1. This may take several minutes.

Click Finish to exit the installer and restart your computer

What I want is to see a link to this or other articles on the BC 2.1 update page, something like "if you have trouble with this update, please see this article."

Hello,

I'm on MacBook Pro, Win XP SP2, and was running BootCamp 2.0
The 2.1 update did nothing. The installer started and then disappeared.

This fixed it for me :

In Windows go to START
Then RUN
type regedit.exe

Then go to

HKEY CLASSESROOT\Installer\Products\82654E0F812156845A61E8A84572A2CD

Make sure that language key is set:

"Language"=dword:00000409 (HEX) 1033(DEC)

Mine was set to 1036, I edited that value to 1033.

Then I simply re-launched the 2.1 install and everything worked fine.
All I had to do was re-boot, and reset my screen resolution back to 1440x900, as the installer switched it to 800x600.
I DID NOT need to uninstall 2.0.

As a bonus, the "two-fingers+click" to emulate right-click seems to work far better (not jerky anymore). Still no "tap to click" though... Oh well...

I faced almost any problem as described here, so here is the todo list to successfully install BC update 2.1:

* Uninstall any 3rd party VGA driver (this includes our MaxiVista VGA driver)

* Reboot

* Enable all hardware components in the Device Manager (I had BlueTooth disabled)

* Insert Leopard DVD and run a repair install of your current BC installation

* Run MSCONFIG and exclude BC KeyboardManager from Startup

* Make sure to fix the registry key for language: HKEY CLASSESROOT\Installer\Products\D5DD71889A642804C827D3CFA8799F7A\Language set it to 1033

* Reboot

And finally the Updater might successfully install.

I had a similar issue but I resolved it last night in one of those "D'oh!" moments.

Apple Software Update would download the Boot Camp 2.1 update, but it would fail during install. It didn't matter if I tried to manually download it or not.

Then, in Googling the problem, I found an obscure reply to an obscure post somewhere that suggested that UltraVNC (a program for remote control) could be causing the install fail. Basically, these VNC programs install a layer on top of the graphics cards drivers that prevents the installer from updating the graphics card.

So, I went to Add/Remove Software and uninstalled UltraVNC and RealVNC. After restating the computer, Boot Camp 2.1 installed just fine.

I did not manage to install Boot Camp update 2.1 on my Mac mini with Windows XP SP2 in Norwegian -.
on the net i found the formula - it is a languageproblem that make the Boot Camp stopp.

Thanks to a genius ( Edwin van Nuil) you can credit him here : http://blog.vannuil.com/2008/05/fixing-problem.html

run regedit
search for Boot Camp-services (others seem to use Boot Camp Services)
change the language to 1033 (decimal) (mine was 1043)
run installer again and presto

Now installing Windows XP Service Pack 3.
In nrwegian services is tjenester otherwise plain vanilla

Boot Camp 2.1 will not install.
