I purchased an 80g ipod classic. Began transferring my cd's into the library today. The first 100 or so worked fine. Now, when I insert cd, error message comes up that "Unable to connect to CDDB server". This is happening now with all new cd's I insert.
My connection is fine. Internet/email operating without problems. Itunes store connects with no problem. I have closed, re-opened itunes, re-booted system, re-installed i-tunes and nothing is working. Any suggestions, because this *****!
This problem is still a huge pain. I have done all the things mentioned above. I cannot connect to Gracenote via itunes on any of my four computers. Two are XP and two are vista. One has definitely had no recent upgrades as I just switched it on after some weeks off just to try to connect. Come on Apple. You need to sort this out!
I was encouraged by some of you that reported CDDB now works. It does not for me. How it is that it works for some but not all? If it is a CDDB issue(and I am convinced it must be) what recourse do we have?
I called 1-800-275-2273 (apples tech report problems) and the girl told me she had never even heard of a CDDB server problems. Said there must be somthing wrong with my cd drive -********. They know about this problem, but just not admitting it. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH APPLE EVER AGAIN. Everyone should call 800-275-2273 and tell them they are having problems. CALL NOW. This is ********!!!!
ok I just talked to apple via 800-275-2273 and they told me that the server was down and it might be a few more days till it's back up. They also said if i had an apple computor that i should be able to connect fine??? that just does not make any sence. Who would buy an apple computor they cant even keep itunes working right.
What was snotty about pointing out that Apple can hardly "own up" to a CDDB connectivity problem? They aren't even the same company. If the Gracenote patch doesn't work, try looking at security settings in the PC, was my suggestion.
Also I wonder if it isn't some ISP thing going on - in iTunes Store for Windows forums, there are lots of folks saying the store is really slow DLing content in different areas of USA, tuns out that Time Warner is throttling access to the iTunes store in various cities.....these connectivity problems are not always something for Apple to sort out.
After two days, trying the Gracenotes patch (no luck), reloading iTunes (no luck), listening to Katrina and doing almost everything I could think of to reset my firewall and connection settings, and finally latched on doing a System Restore to last weekend, when I know everything was working. Guess what---it is working now, CDDB connects just fine.
I was able to fix this with help from my Tech Guru. It appears to be a problem with a recent MS tech patch (February 12?) relating to Yahoo music vulenrabilities. When we uninstalled that patch, itunes accessed CDDB.
Good luck - sorry for lack of specificity due to my pedestrian tech skills.
