Problem scanning with hp psc 2110 all-in-one

I am trying to scan using an hp psc 2110 all-in-one and I keep getting an error message that the scanner can not be found. I can print and copy just fine, just no scanning. I tried reinstalling the hp drivers from the Leopard dvd with no luck and there are drivers on the hp site. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I tried to look for the latest driver and there is not one. The site says that with Leopard there is no need for new drivers the drivers are installed with Leopard. I have tried to select the scanner in the Device Manager but that is where I also get the scanner not found message. Kind of frustrating!

2rodee, I agree. I'm having the same issue with a 2210 and a 5240. I think I'm going to look at the Canon MX700. I've contacted HP Tech Support and downloaded and installed the latest, greatest drivers and software for the 5240 and all it has done is caused permissions problems. I've had the 2210 for quite some time but just purchased the 5240 in December. Amazing there isn't a fix by now and as a side note, the 5240 has sounded like a farm tractor since it was new and is now jamming paper every time I try to print. I haven't been able to use the scan function with either machine unless I use VueScan. I didn't really want to purchase another piece of software in order to scan but really had no choice.

I hope VueScan works as well for you guys as it does for me. It is capable of doing much more than I'll ever need. I doubt I'll try HP software again until this whole driver and software issue is resolved once and for all. A simple scan function is all I need and I really expected HP to get this fixed in a timely manner. I'm not bashing HP, just disappointed. I've never had a problem in all the years I've ran a Windows box.

Vuescan seemed to work OK. Hard to say with the trial version cause it leaves a watermark until you purchase the full version, which I understand. Have not decided yet if I will purchase Vuescan or just wait. I don't really scan that often, but when you need to, it is nice to be ABLE to, right HP? Any other options other than purchasing a new all-in-one? Other software options?

From HP about the 2110 scanning function:

The HP CD and Web download were created before Mac OS X v10.5 development and release, so there might be problems with the install process. Please refer to instructions in step one above and refer back to this Web site for new updated software that is compatible with Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.

Maybe a new printer is in order?

Here is the reply I received when I e-mailed HP:

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care. At this time HP does not have the PSC 2110 printer on the list to develop full feature software for Leopard. At this time, the printer is supported Print Only using the preloaded software on the operating system. You will not be able to scan with our software.

I guess that I am out of luck then for scanning unless I purchase Vuescan.

I've contacted HP Customer Care about maybe releasing communication settings on the PSC 2210 so that something like the SANE project (http://www.sane-project.org) can perhaps bring us back use of our equipment. Unfortunately, there's no compatible driver at the moment, but if HP could be persuaded to release the com protocols 'into the wild' the possibility exists that the scanners could be used again. Cross your fingers...
