internal soundcard enough?

Right now I'm in the process of looking for an external sound card (Firewire). Probably one of M-Audio's product.

My question is, is the internal soundcard built into the PowerMac G5 enough to record for now? I mean...in terms of running AU instrumnts....

What would you suggest if I'm to get an external sound card/module? I need to be able to plug my Roland RD-300SX and a mic pre-amp...and maybe a couple more inputs. 🙂

Thanks guys!

That's exactly what I meant... 🙂

I can "mute" tracks, play around with EQs...and then sort of do a "pre-mix" before sending it to Logic...then I can do the "post-mix". That's if I'm recording live with my band or something....

But most of the time, I'm in front of the computer doing my own thing...hey, I only have 2 hands...and maybe sing at the same time.

this is exactly right snd not a bad way to go. generally you master that way anyway don't you? out board gear mixed at the desk and then recorded into the computer as stereo. you can do level mixing and even send to external effects. you can have the 2 channels from the computer going into the desk (after passing through the converter) to be included in the FX and then mastered back into the computer with everything else via the converter.

or

if you only have 1 external module or whatever send it directly into the computer and do the mixing internally using space designer for reverb. it's a good solution.
